Time to add more horrible-ness to this thread:
All of these on the very first page of Naruto fanfiction.

My brain just melted out of my skull. One of those has the audacity to be called 'my most popular story'.

And this new trend of writing Slash and calling it Yaoi. It's slash. Stop trying to hide your poorly written attempt at homoerotica under a cool sounding name. (This is especially true of HP fics, which have nothing to do with that particular label)

New trend? Ummm... where the fuck have you been for the last 20 years? The japanese terms Yaoi and Yuri have been around since before the dawn of the internet.

Ok.. so maybe it's been around for a while, but it does seem to be picking up.

And I'm not exactly an expert on it... cry pardon. It just seems like everything is slash, and people are using the label for non-anime/manga fics. I've not been around long enough except to note that instead of one in five or ten stories being slash, most of them are slash, especially Naruto. I'm not familiar enough with the source material to know whether or not it is a product of canon or not.

Yaoi has been in Naruto just as long as Slash has been in Harry Potter.

I'd be willing to bet a hefty sum that Jorm has a secret account on ff.net with a favorite's list full of Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/etc. Probably a few of his own, too.

I'm pretty one-dimensional, I'm afraid - true, I have some truly terrible Harry Potter and some Kim Possible fanfics on my 'favourites', but that's all.

Because I have been exceptionally bored today, here are some examples of horrible-ness from the first page of HP fanfiction:

Isn't it depressing that the only reason I didn't include the entire first page was the fact that the summaries excluded made some semblance of sense, even if the premise was terrible(read:slash: slash)?

So much fail in one place. twincest, lack of punctuation, horrible plot ideas, soul bonds (urgh), improper use of language... and stories that introduce OCs without any warning at all.

Every day these summaries make me die a little more inside.

Sorry, but what exactly is wrong with most of those summaries? They're bad ideas yes, but the summaries themselves are fine. I'd only call maybe two of them actually bad.

Now these, for example, are what I'd call bad summaries:

I do think one or, if you squint, two aren't too bad. But in plot department, auto-fail overall.

    Edit:

A bad summary for me means more than just bad grammar.

I suppose you'd rather have stories like this in the thread:
    or this:
But summaries that are so outlandishly stupid, even with passable grammar, I think deserve a place here.
    For example:

Yeah... that's my point. The plot is bad, not the summaries themselves.

Ok... so we know things are going to hell when the FFN opening page has awkward wording.

Why would someone read something with a summary like that?
