Next chapter of the sequel is up. I liked it, even if Harry is going to end up at Hogwarts, because he hasn't lost his mentality from earlier.

Personally, even though I laughed at a few points, I think it was bad. Harry is basically doing whatever Dumbledore asks him to, and even though he talks like it's the same, it isn't.

I don't want to read about Harry-I-am-a-forest-elf in Hogwarts. I want to read about him wandering in the forest again.

There's also an issue of hints of the usual Manipulative Dumbledore, and that has made a warning light flicker on in my display.

It's just not the same anymore.

There are multiple hints of Harry being uncomfortable with being in Hogwarts (e.g. wanting to leave the Great Hall after his Sorting) but so far he has concurred on all counts. If Harry-the-Forest-Elf is to stay coherent as a character, something has to give - and soon. For instance, spending the night inside the castle or using a wand both seem incongruous with Harry's mentality. As another example, Harry has a history of tackling problematic situations by simply evading them. It seems inconceivable that he doesn't run away from Hogwarts several times, especially during the first few weeks.

It will be interesting to see how the author deals with the continuous culture clash between ''forest elves'' and wizards. For me personally the story can only remain interesting if Harry adapts to wizarding culture but isn't assimilated. I partially agree with Nauro, in the sense that I doubt that the author can pull it off. Next chapter will probably be crucial to get an idea in which direction the author wants to take this.

The Handbook of Elf Psychology has been updated and is now at chapter seven. It's still a fun read and full of entertaining surprises and odd ideas.

This is probably my favorite fic right now. I know it could be argued that the characters (Snape, Malfoy, maybe Dumbledore) are a little OOC but they suit this fic so well that it not only doesn't detract from the fic, it makes it better.

This is one of the few stories that actually made me laugh out loud, as well as constantly smiling at its antics. The exchanges when he shows up months late for class are especially amusing, along with the writers ability to write a kid so well. Unlike every other story I've read, I'm actually dreading Harry growing up because him as a kid is just so amusing.

    Easily 5/5 for me.

    This story is wonderful.

In the hands of lesser authors I don't think that the initial concept could have been executed this well. The humour and the light tone remind me of the first book.
There's also the fact that the wizarding world feels incredibly vibrant, alive. The uniqueness of the HP world really shines through. Harry meet all kind of creatures and his encounters are often hilarious. Magical creatures, mermaids, centaurs? You name it.

It's been a while since I've read something that entertaining 5/5

The fate of Snape's owl with its "cruel beak" in the new chapter was hilarious.

Enjoyed this chapter. The bits with Sirius were fun, and I'm glad that Harry has decided to take a break from Hogwarts for a while -- having him stay there much longer wouldn't have fit his characterization here.

    I found this thoroughly enjoyable.

I really like how Harry completely buys into his being an elf and conforms to his own worldview. It's also nice how he learns to use magic in a completely organic way completely different from wizards who are brought up to use wands, and because of that magic works differently for him.

4/5. You don't often see an original idea so nicely implemented as in this story and its sequel. I love how it's humorous, but doesn't quite degenerate into actual crack territory.

I had gotten a bit bored with the plot while Harry was at Hogwarts, but it seems that it has picked up again in the last two chapters where he meets and interacts with Sirius.

What bugler forgot to say is "it updated."

Good chapter. I've also enjoyed Harry being away from Hogwarts, and Sirius is interesting. Of course Harry is heading back to Hogwarts now, just not for school (he's still had enough of that).

I'd say it's one of evansentranced best chapters so far. There are a lot of quotable parts in it that highlight Harry's unique perspective, living in a forest. Have you ever heard of that statistic that says that the majority of Americans are unhappy? It's to do with the wealth of choices that they have. Harry is lacking in that kind of wealth, and he's all the more content for it.

This is also by far the most natural rehabilitation of Sirius I've seen.

    Updated.

Chapter started a bit weak but improved quickly. By the end I was grinning with delight.

    Love this story.

Love this story. Not quite finished with the sequel yet, but so far its been great.
I particularly like how natural Harry's friendships with the various different snakes feel.
    5/5

Edit: Damn, didn't read any posts in this thread, so I didn't realise it wasn't finished yet :(

This is one of my favorites, it made me laugh out loud several times.

The 'boon' idea was pretty awesome. I didn't have an issue with it being used frequently. It is, after all, an essential part of forest elf culture and thus an essential part of the story. It was really interesting to see Harry develop his trading skills, and to see his thought process/creativity while crafting trade-items, and his cunning.

Once I reached the part when our favorite forest elf was
finally captured, I was a little disappointed because I didn't want the poor thing to suffer through Hogwarts. No forest elf would want anything to do with Hogwarts, bleh! However, the sequel, "Handbook of Elf Psychology", was able to pull it off anyway, and it was absolutely hilarious seeing the way the staff were treated.

I don't think I'll ever read another independent!Harry fic that can entertain me as much as Fantastic Elves and Where to Find Them. 5/5 for both this and the sequel.

Bumping because the sequel is now complete. The author is planning a third story (The Home Life and Social Habits of British Elves) that will apparently be more of a series of one shots than a continuous story.

I admit I'd expected a bit more fallout at the end of the second story than we actually got. Everything I expected was there but it just felt... underwhelming, somehow. Still a a solid recommendation from me, but it's like waiting for a climax you expect to be 10/10 and it only being 8/10 instead.

Good time to read these two stories if you haven't yet. They're more humor/adventure than crack!fic, but it does toe the line.

I agree with Ched on it. After a long wait the author posted some kind of epilogue to this installment, rounding up some open questions, but leaving others.

You could say the author didn't put that much effort into it and just wanted it finished. I'd say Harry seems to get older and that's having an impact on the story and how it feels.

I'm looking forward to the third part, but I expect long waits between updates.
