    Anybody else watching that?

    Fargo

There are only 3 episodes for now, but I've been totally hooked by this show.

It's somewhat of a TV series adaptation of the 1996 movie made by the Coen brothers.

The mysterious and chilling -for more than one reason- atmosphere, as dark as it is cynical, makes this show IMO the 'new' Breaking Bad.

The actors performing in it are excellent too, and I feared that Lester -one of the main characters- would be too Walter White-y, too much of a copy paste... But from what little has been shown, it doesn't appear to be going this way.

Anyways, I recommend it for all thriller/crime TV series enthusiasts.

I wasn't really expecting to enjoy this - I didn't care for the film that much when I saw it; not bad, just not as amazing as I'd heard it was going to be - but it's actually rather good. Billy Bob Thornton is chilling, and Martin Freeman is brilliant. The writing strikes a neat balance between whimsy, dry humour and the darker, more unpalatable side of life. It's making me want to re-watch the original film to see if I like it more this time round.

Anything with Martin Freeman is bound to be at least decent!

I remember watching the movie and enjoying it far more than I expected. I was surprised when I saw the TV ad and excited because it was a great movie. I usually don't start watching a new series until I have finished off the one I am watching, but I wanted to see how Fargo was so I watched an episode. The episode left me hooked and for the first time I am watching two TV shows concurrently.

I'm watching the fourth episode and something is just bothering me too much.

No one noticed he's wearing glasses he didn't have? and to make it worse he's wearing the glasses of the guy who booked him and we saw that the guy who booked him was wearing them before they came in which means he wears them frequently, so I don't get how he's getting away with this.

Watched the first two episodes last night. First episode feels like it could be a movie on it's own, given it clocks in around an hour and 10-20 minutes and is really self-contained. Pretty good show.

Episode six was just amazing. Didn't know I cared about Chump until this episode.

Also, Lester is giving me some mad Walter White vibes, although he does also seem to be a Malvo in training. Still I just can't seem to root against the guy maybe its because Martin Freeman plays him.

Can fish fall from the sky during a blizzard? I know frogs and stuff happens because Tornadoes pick them up but how does it work with a blizzard.

So this was pretty good. Just watched the last episode. I love the 'some men aren't men' theme, and that scene
where Malvo looked dead and then kept moving
    was pretty fucking awesome.

I haven't actually seen the movie, but I'm definitely going to, if only to see what inspired this.

Thought I'd revivify 'cause not only did I devour all ten episodes of this show in one go a fortnight back and fucking loved it, but to tell the world, just in case they haven't heard: Season Two has been ordered. It's an anthology series so holla, basically new cast and new story each year, and next season's going to involve the incident at Sioux Falls that Lou Solverson investigated in his thirties. So we're seeing young Molly and Lou's wife, shit like that. I'm in. The showrunner said that each season is kinda inspired by a few Coen movies; this year was Fargo and No Country For Old Men, and next season's got some Miller's Crossing and The Man Who Wasn't There action, along with more Fargo-y (Woodchipper, finger's crossed). Solid.

Also, yeah, I loved Season One so much. I'm not worried about the second story not matching up; they'll find some cool talent and there's still just one writer doing it, so. Lester and Lorne were so goddamn great villains to follow, man; the journey of Lester was like slamming back all of Breaking Bad in one go but the main guy's even more despicable and enjoyable because of it. Lorne, meanwhile, was just aces. The constant trolling, the scary faces, the murder rampages. Martin and Billy Bob killed it.

Molly was also brilliant, perfect mix of sympathetic in her competence and just being genuinely good and shit. And Gus, y'know, is Gus, but dude grew some brass balls and again, was just a good guy. And that he and Molly did their thing and had their happy family time with Greta and Lou was, yeah, all kinds of d'aww-y.

And yeah, more gushing: Numbers and Wrench felt beautifully Coen-y, and I wouldn't mind if they showed up in another season. Key and Peele were hilarious as dicks, every time; they totally should play another duo in S2, for lulz. Bob Odenkirk playing a dumbass most of the time was hard, but damn if he didn't nail it during Lester's confession and his speech at the end. Snowstorm gun fight was amaze, the elevator scene made me laugh in an "oh no they didn't oh god I'm scared haha" way, windowed massacre was creatively hilarious, I love - in a "fuck you" way - Lester's little improvisations with the revolver and the coat, not to mention the endgame fight...

Aww jeez, I could go on forever.

Oh, and I was talking in that Minnesotan accent for a few days. Well heck, it was just such a good show!

So I just watched all of this. and I have to ask. What was the fucking point in this? Were there a meeting where they decided that what Coen movies have been missing up until this point is the boring old christian morality bollocks? Bad guys going unpunished? Not on Hollywood's watch!!! Perhaps they can reboot Big Lebowski and just have the dude call the cops on the asshole that pissed on his floor and the rest of the show is about a bowling tournament.

Ugh this just pissed me off so bad. The first 8 or so episodes were great it's just an expanded upon Fargo and even if it felt a bit long in places that's generally a good thing. That last episode was a kick in the dick though. It even ends on a cheesy family sitting in front of the television scene. It should have at least been him going to prison for murder, but accepting it as a price worth paying for his families safety or something.

    Rant over.
