The VN is immensely flawed though. I say that even though there are things I love about it. The prose and the pacing are the two biggest problems - both of which can be solved in an adaptation if the studio was willing to change some things. To be fair to the show, it inherited a lot of its silly dialogue from the VN. I wasn't criticising the show as an adaptation though, I was critiquing it as a standalone piece of media (which is how it should be critiqued).

Someone mentioned how the director refuses to use monologues - this is something that's irritated me a lot. If used well it could've helped this show be a lot smoother than it is. Obviously the source material is incredibly monologue-heavy, but then it's the same thing with OreGairu, which is fantastic (albeit based on a story which is put together much better).

 

Really liked this week's episode, Lancer vs Archer was good.

New episode out and (IMO) the most disappointing one yet. Although the part with Archer's flashback was nicely done, UBW itself was largely underwhelming and everything about the whole episode felt cut out.

In any case, the next episode will probably be the one to either make or break this adaptation for me.

 

They still have 7 episodes to go, right?
Because I'm wondering how they'll fill them, considering the fights this episode were so short.

 

I kinda expected Archer's chant to be shortened, but not that much.
But WTF was that fight? Who would cut the best part of it? I hope they intend to put everything in the next confrontation.

 

Crap episode is crap. Why's the rush? The LN is nearly over and we still have 6 episodes left. Huh, maybe they'd show that special scene in BluRay.

 

Hmmm, dat EMIYA.

 

Next episode makes or breaks the entire thing. If it sucks, what a failure. The abrupt cut last episode made me go, "What?" Bah. UBW in that episode was like a teaser; totally done wrong.

So yeah, they've been dropping hints for a while

 

While I admit some of the images are designed to be direct references, I'm laughing at the idea of some of them. The one image you have shown as ufo? Oh noz a character is being coy. Bit like the images of Lancer being Shinji since they had one pose be the same and they have blue hair.

Anyhow, they FINALLY USED ONE BGM off FSN and that was only for a the ending of this episode. What a bunch of losers.

 

I absolutely loved this episode. Very well adapted all things considered I would say. And the music was great, even if I would like them to use the EMIYA song more.

 

I was skeptical when they said that they were changing things for the fight but goddamn, this was really fucking great. Didn't see why they had to cut EMIYA short but the new song was fitting enough. Eagerly waiting for Archer's part of the Answer.

Also, Lancer is the man.

 

I fully expect EMIYA to be used more next episode. But yeah, I actually felt the new song fit in very well.

 

I'm wondering how clear the conflict between the two/dialogue felt for someone with no background in the series. For those who haven't played the VN, what did you think? I liked it, but I didn't think it stood very well on its own. Curious what the secondaries think.
