Sure, sure. Sounds good. Wouldn't want to smooth over details that could fuck up the Round Robin. Let's do it half assed and maybe it'll work out.

But I can still point out things regarding the contest, even if I'm not participating, can't I? And I don't know why you're jumping down my throat for sharing an opinion. It's just a comment, man. Damn, it wasn't even a harsh one in the first place.

When/where are first round submissions being posted? Inquiring minds want to know.

 

And when is it due? I might have just failed at reading, but I didn't notice a submission deadline.

Edit:Aaaaaand it's dead. only four pages in dire need of polish, but I think I have my entry... Hmm... prologue it or leave it ambiguous... eh, this is DLP, Ambiguous is better, someone else can flash back to that part later.

 

I've got around 3k words written, shouldn't be longer than 5k.

That brings me to a question. There should be some sort of word cap. I know there's guys here who can churn out 20k words for a chapter, but that sort of leaves writing the follow up really hard. No one wants to read a 20k word chapter, and have the next one be 5k. Writing a similar length chapter to someone elses story in three weeks would be nigh on impossible except for the original writer. Also, 'reasonable length' chapters allow each writer to build their own characters and plot so the guy who does 20k doesn't hog everything by setting everything firmly in stone.

 

eh, setting things in stone is tough in HP fiction as there are a multitude of ways (many of them Terrible) to reset the world around the characters.

That said, I very much agree that there should be something that says 'Your post should be at least vaugly around this count at most.' especially since it'd also kinda suck to be the guy that wrote 20k and then didn't get his submission picked.

 

Eight days left and only now working on something that may turn into an entry. It's usually not nearly this difficult to draw up something and hammer out a few thousand words, but for some reason my heart just isn't in writing, let alone for a contest, of late.

 

Right, so, a lot of ideas were thrown around in this thread regarding the format of the contest. I want to make sure I've got the right idea about it.

1. People compete to write the first chapter of a story, due on Feb 28th.
2. The winning chapter becomes the first chapter of a communal story.
3. In March, people compete to write chapter two of the story, following on from the winning chapter of the Feb contest.
4. The winner of the March contest becomes chapter 2.
5. Repeat until the story is finished.

Correct?

 

Looks right to me, Taure, with the exception of the last date being February 29th, not the 28th.

Also, will have an entry for this one. About 5,000 words in, and quite pleased with what I have so far.

 

I too am entering. Several thousand words into it now, should be done by the end of the day.
