Has anyone else NOT recieved any author/story alerts from FFN for the past week or so? I changed them to go into my gmail account because they were getting bounced from my ISP e-mail... and all was fine for a couple of days but it stopped just before Christmas.

 

It's possible the servers are lagging a little, since they've had times where they'd go a week without alerts hitting my email then in the course of 5 minutes I get like...20 of them.

As for how they're lagging, well it could be because of all the slash/Ginslut fans have no life (as we've already agreed upon), and with no school, they have more time to get on FF.net

 

Same thing is happening to me. I'm yet to receive the alert for the latest chapters of Naia's Anarkia and Kalistar' s Dying Embers

 

I've stopped using alerts altogether and started throwing all the stories that interest me in a single C2 group, where I can monitor them for new chapters. The only fault of this system is that you don't get author alerts, but oh well...

 

Same here. Watch 1-2 weeks later you will get a flood of emails.

 

I got about 50 the other day, I deleted them all though so I couldn't tell you when. Haven't gotten any since then, and it really makes me miss the story monitor extension for Firefox. Hasn't been updated for 2.0 yet so I can't use it though.

 

It really sucks because I rely on those alerts--I always forget to check for new chapters or reviews when I'm writing so if the emails don't come I won't realize what's going on for a while.

 

Yeah, in a way, it was a relief that I didn't have to deal with a million updates (I managed to only read two of the twenty that I got in), but right now I'm missing my FF fix. The last alert I got was 1:36 this morning.

 

Oh, thank god I'm not the only person who's been missing out.

 

The worst part is that it doesn't seem to be 100% dead or 100% working. I've gotten updates for some things and not others. When I got my most recent round of alerts, I noticed that I had never gotten alerts for the previous chapters.

Grrr. Like I have the time (or sanity I can afford to lose) checking all the fics on my alert list by hand.

 

Yeah. I can pretty much track the last alert I got to Thursday, January 4th at 8:51 PM (20:51). The first alert I got was on Wednesday, January 3rd at 7:43 PM(19:43) So there was a roughly 25 hour period in which they were sending emails.

Speaking of time or sanity to check all of the fics on my alert list by hand: Considering that I have 900 authors on alert, they'd probably update quicker than I could check them. FF alerts, come back!

 

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I think they stop sending you updates unless the story is in your 75 most recent... If it wasn't for the sheer number of story's they have I'd Dump FF.Net in a heartbeat. As it is the Damn site is the Premier Repository.

Manatheron: mmm.. Not so much, methinks. I have updates from authors who had abandoned thier story without telling anyone and when they do post a chapter telling readers about it, I get one.

Looks like it's up again. I've been getting alerts from 9:28 until now.

 

Why do they do this to us? Its like an abusive significant other... it ignores us for so long, we hate it, then when it comes back, we love it. Its a never ending cycle. Where will it all end?
