I'd really like to be more familiar with EU stuff like that, but I'm more or less limited to the movies, and any EU knowledge I have (like knowing just how bawss Mace was) is probably relative to that. I know names like Darth Revan and the like, but not the stories.

That's not to say I wouldn't try my best. I know the movies quite well, and I feel even characters like prequel Annakin could be redeemed in text.
