    Does anyone know of any good stories that fit in perfectly with canon, either all the way up to DH or at least up to what ever book was published when it was written, but is not about Harry?

    Something along the lines of the additional stories and information printed for Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion? Stories about people and places inside the HP universe, that fit with canon, but arent the main story?

    Short stories about Harpo the Foul? St Mungo? The Founders?

    I've seen lots of time travel fics with Harry going back to live in these times, but that is obviously not canon.

    Most of Fernwithy's stuff probably fits those criteria. Most of it focuses on Lupin, with some veering off to focus on Tonks or Teddy. I read a lot of it years ago when it was being written and enjoyed it, but I have no idea if it's aged well or not.

    Shifts - What if Remus's mysterious work for the Order was protecting someone Harry didn't think to worry about? And what if he did it in his capacity as a teacher... at Smeltings?

    Shades - A Half-Blood Prince year sequel to Shifts, in which Remus and Tonks, separated by the war, deal with werewolves, Dementors, and their own reflections.

    More of their HP stuff on LJ (they didn't post a lot of it on ffnet).

    If you don't like the format on the LJ (I am not a fan), then most of it (including Shifts and Shades) is on SugarQuill as well. Actually that might be the best place to read some of it.

    The Alexandra Quick series. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it is set contemporaneously with Harry Potter, and is almost entirely compliant with canon [I think there might be some very minor differences because AQ was begun before HP7 was released].

    Lady Altair (of Cauterize fame) has written seventy-odd behind-the-scenes one-shots that flesh out the HP canon world. Most of her stories are quite good and fit the OP's request to a tee.
