Japanese devs seem to need the ridiculous hair and costumes for their characters to give them personality since... forever.

You know, in lieu of good dialogue or characterisation.

I'm not expecting much on that front - a tactic that's worked well for me on 99% of jrpgs I've ever played - but am super excited about the world building, graphics and combat.

I fell in love with the telekinetic weapons - that seem to have Hiraishin tags on them - immediately when I saw them in the first cg trailer.

I'm hoping you just add weapons to your arsenal instead of replacing them as the game goes on. Would be a really cool mechanic, with each weapon handling differently Dark Souls style, but each 'teleportable' while the ones in reserve can soak damage.

Kinda looks to me like Noctis is the party arsenal, and whatever isnt eqipped by the party, Noctis can summon. Note that he's using the big dude's buster sword at one point.

Or maybe they're all Noctis' weps and he protects the others with them / lets them use them. That would be cool.

    Aye. Does sound cool.

Also pretty big news was that Nomura isn't working on it anymore. Could mean a lot of things.

    Is the game mostly done?

    Was he slowing shit up?

Does it mean the combat will be less like KH?

Isn't the type 0 guy the lead now?

Hugplx, I am here with your answers! First off, the game is roughly 50% done, most if, not all of that being the percent starting from 2012, so that means it'll come out around 2016, my 2015 was sadly wrong. Nomura left to focus on KH3, it seems that unlike in the FF13 days, Square is trying to keep people working on multiple projects instead of dumping everyone on just one project. The combat system itself is probably not going to change much, if at all. The new lead, was co-director as is, Tabata directed Type-0.

Apparently the game is 50-60% complete. I thought we were gonna get it next Christmas but it looks like we're gonna be waiting quite a bit longer.

Did they just scrap the game at some point in the past and start again? It's been in development since 2006.

Yeah, they did basically that when they moved it to the PS4. I'm guessing only the story really carried over.

Yikes. Only 50% done? I was thinking like 90. Can't believe they'd want to split up development with the game only half complete.

Guess that means winter 2016 spring 2017 english release? Christ.

A game doesn't take that long to make once a team has direction and the fundamental systems are in place.

    I'm assuming holiday 2015.

    A couple items of interest:

New battle view (same scenario, different action) and, more importantly, explanation of the basics of the battle system: http://kotaku.com/our-best-look-yet-at-final-fantasy-xvs-combat-1641628297

    Some more general info: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/...ots-of-new-details-from-tokyo-game-show-2014/

Day-night cycle with stronger monsters at night sounds cool.

The big gameplay info we're missing right now is the character customisation options (in terms of stats, abilities, equipment, "jobs" etc.) Also, since you only control Noctis, if there's going to be some kind of FFXII style ability to give general direction to the other party members.

I really like the mixture of strategy and action. Combat seems to revolve around positioning in the 3D space and forethought through the gambit system.

    Me likey.

Interestingly, no mention of magic or summoning.

One of the articles there mentioned magic insomuch that it plays a big part.

The example they gave was with the Fire spell. Something about the embers after casting causes the party to become feverish? Something like that.

That would be so damn cool if all attack overcasting has a corresponding status debuff. I'm imagining stuff like fire causing burn, blizz causing freeze, thunder causing paralyze, gravity causing slow, bio causing poison, holy causing blind...

Knowing when to allow yourself to spam and get debuffed in exchange for exploiting an enemy weakness would add a whole new element to the games.

Better yet, picking up some items that negate burns then turning the area into a firestorm. That would be cool.

Hrmm, from the video, it looks almost like Noctis is using Water to form weapons -kind of like Demyx from KH2- instead of summoning them.

Edit: Or, on second thought, it might just be the rain hitting the barely there, barely formed weapons?

It definitely might be. When the game was still Versus13, Noctis' magic produced a blue glow. Stella's magic had a similar sort of glow, but it was orange and fiery. So there could be some sort of a house of fire vs house of water interplay.

Although, from the more recent trailers, the magic looks less to me like water and more like standard magicky light and prism effects.

So, I've been playing Shadow of Mordor. If Noctis' blade teleportation works/ feels anything like Talion's Wraith Strike...

    I will be pleased.
