New vid. Bitches be driving and running.

I'm a little blown away by how absolutely massive the open world is. Feels bigger than Skyrim. Sure that might be the biggest zone available to play in, but still.

Edit: I like how they have to slow down and catch their breath after running for a while. That's some kickass game realism.

Edit 2: Same vid but with english subs.

At one point the guys says, "everywhere you can see, you can walk." At the end they start talking about map size. The episode duscae map would apparently take over an hour to cross on foot, and it only encompasses about 1/10th of the full game map.

    Holy Fucknuts.

I won't even care when the story is inevitably shit.

That being said, the world sure looks pretty, but really soulless and empty. Like a high res overhead world map of old.

    Early days though.

On another note, are we still using Skyrim as a metric for size? Surely gtav was bigger? (Certainly more populated).

Also this Q+A from the same stream explains why the UI is so sparse, which had me worried:

By Final Fantasy XX gameplay will be advanced to the point where the player is no longer necessary. Taking bets now.

The gameplay actually sounds very similar to that of Kingdom Hearts, which is definitely a plus in my books. Especially timed blocks and parries. What worries me is that the open world might be massive, but empty, sort of like Skyrim. It kinda sounds like we're gona have to spend a decent chunk of time just driving/walking/running to places. I hope they have a fast travel system or something to shorten travel times.

Even if there isn't a personal airship to explore with (and I'm sure there will be one given the massive shitfit people would throw at such an omission), there will probably at least be one for routes between towns. There can't not be with a map this mind-bogglingly big.

This is the only zone we've seen so far that looks really empty and I think that's probably intentional to illustrate the open wild. The cities we've seen are all pretty cluttered and textured.

I doubt airships will make sense. Unless the map is as big as Kalimdor.

You can run wow's kalimdor tip to tip in about an hour without speed buffs or mounts.

As stated above, running the map in episode duscae takes over an hour, and this portion of the game only accounts for 1/10 of the full game map.

So yes. Easily bigger than all of WoW combined.

Hm. Believe it when I see it. The scale they're talking about, combined with the fidelity, sounds... Not plausible on consoles.

    Especially from Japanese developers.

It really depends on how they utilize the next gen specs. The new consoles are several times more powerful than ps3/xbox, and ps3 can run skyrim relatively well.

It will certainly be pushing the limits of the new consoles... but it's manageable.

I'll allow it, but saying ps3 runs Skyrim well made me chuckle.

But with the sizes you're talking about, (several orders of magnitude larger than Azeroth o_O) Skyrim really becomes an irrelevant comparison.

With a map that big though, population becomes the most pressing issue.

I'm curious, at least. At the very least with the size of the game's install.

I expect at least 60gb, as the average PS4 game is 30-50.

Where would they be pulling all those assets from then? WoW is around 50gb last time I checked and I'm pretty sure PC game installs are more efficient on the HD.

    Just boggles my mind.

Maybe they'll be doing something like No Man's Sky and only creating the world as it comes into your field of view - which would be super processor heavy I imagine...

    Curious.

I really don't know enough about game software to understand what percentage of a game like this is graphics load and what percentage is functionality and post-processing so.... *shrug*. This is clearly going to be one of the physically biggest, graphics-heavy games ever made, so yeah, 60gb is my expected bare minimum.

And 50 for WoW? That seems way too big. I heard Warlords of Draenor is only supposed to put WoW at 35ish. Are you running like.... 8000 different Curse mods?

Unless they've made it more efficient in the last few years, it was around that when I uninstalled it a few years ago IIRC.

My up to date WoW folder is 27.9 GB.

You'd need like every addon to exist, all the patches since vanilla and a screenshot film to get around 50.

So, in regards to the world looking empty, I heard on a podcast today that one of the devs said they'd removed a lot of th monsters and NPCs for the teaser/ trailer.

    I've got no source though.
