Just going through the content bit by bit. Arena has been fun, I expect it'll get more exciting as I advance in tiers. The Special Battles have been great for learning, 0 stamina and I get to see some interesting skill combinations and interactions.

Kinda proud of that one. Definitely the most difficult thing I've done in FEH so far.

Been focusing on getting Hector and Hardin kitted out with something resembling functioning builds. Hector's is copied straight from Gamepress' recommended build, mostly because it only required a skill from a hero I had a duplicate of. Early days yet, he can get tweaked and optimized later.

Got Reinhardt, he's a blast. If he had a cavalry sabre instead of that sword of his he would be my favorite character by far.

Quick questions:

Is it worth promoting a 3* to a 4*? Or is it better to simply wait until you roll a 4* version if one is available?

Once you've done all of the story content, what becomes the primary source of orbs? Quests?

 

I only promote 3s when one of my new 5 star units really needs a skill from the 4 star version of the fodder unit. You get tons of feathers over time though so really not an issue. Do whatever.

Yeah pretty much. And freebie giveaways. And arena/islands/all the various modes rewards. Events too. You'll be raking in around 20ish per week even during content draughts.

Don't worry about currency. They are very very generous with feathers and orbs. I am fully ftp and have done enough summons/promotions to have the following 5s:

And I've probably inherited/merged another 40 or so 5star dupes. Also, although my current total list of 3/4/5s is mid 500s, I've probably burned another 400 or so total units to inheritance / feather exchange.

 

Arguably the only 3* units you absolutely want to keep for 4* fodder (unless you've already get 10+ at 4*, but even then I'd still keep) are Hinata for Fury 3, Shanna for Desperation 3 and Abel for Swordbreaker 3.

I can't really think of any other 3* that are worth spending 2k on to upgrade for that 4* fodder, but I'm undoubtedly forgetting some.

 

I'm not sure if new players missed out on the heavy blade sacred seal, or if you can craft it, but the tempest trials coming out on the 15th has not only Masked Lucina (a very, very good anti dragon sword unit), but the Flashing Blade sacred seal.

Get it. It'll be busted.

So for the first time in months, I logged into this game. And boy did I have a lot of summoning orbs in my mailbox. Naturally, like any scrub I decided to blow them all on one of the summer packs, and opened Prince at Play Takumi and Tropical Beauty Camilla.

Dang, now I actually feel compelled to play this game and learn how it works.

 

Rule number 1, don't waste orbs on blue and colourless when there's a busted loli red dragon in the same banner

You get roughly 300ish orbs a month on average if you do everything (including both arenas and all the events), added to that is the insane amount of orbs available to fresh players from doing all the story and lunatic chain challenges (which are very hard, so not new player friendly).

If you want to f2p, don't spend any orbs until the next legendary banner, or the one after that, then pull on every orb for max efficiency and for filling out your roster with 5*

It has trappings enough to make you spend stupid money, but there's loads of great freebies that let you do most of what's in the game without spending a dime - especially with the free Fjorm and Ike, and the soon to be released Choose Your Legend hero, another free 5*

 

I've never spent a single dollar on this game, and I have more resources than I know what to do with most of the time.

 

Just don't get competitive and you're gravy.

 

Honestly, you can be competitive and still not spend at all. You won't maintain rank 20 every week, but you'll get in often enough.

 

I mean, i equate competing with trying to beat the best. If you mean competitive to be participating and doing 'enough' in everything, you're probably right.

You're not staying high ranked in AA without putting in money though... Especially since by the time you build a f2p roster deep enough to do so, those units will have been power crept lol x)

This Tiki build is monstrous btw. Renewal is placeholder tbh because her B skill is largely itrelevant (because the best options are probably Wrath or Chill Res and super rare. You bet your ass I'm rolling on the upcoming neph banner for wrath).

She's not even +atk. +6 from fire boost, 5 from weapon, 3 from Hector and 6 from Hone Dragons...

That's 80 atk in both phases without glimmer... 83 if I ever get +atk-spd

Oh, and heal 20 every 2 turns for the lulz.

It's a super cheap, busted build (you don't need Hone Dragons. You can just as easily atk tactic her instead) that I highly recommend. Fire boost is pretty rare but Fury works just fine.

Who should I pick as my free unit? Brave Hector is obviously the first choice because he's OP as fuck, but I got him from the regular gacha.

Trying to decide between Ephraim (because I need a higher res green armor) and Veronica (who will probably be the first Tier 1 staff unit)

 

This Hector is Lance though, so he goes with the one you've already got well. Picking Ephraim will just double up.

That being said, it's fairly easy to build Effie up high in f2p, so maybe you want an axe, and Eph comes with Armour March. Both are busted, if boring.

Celica is just meh. She's obviously powerful, but her weapon is a bit iffy (making sure an ally is within 2 spaces when initiating isn't as simple as it sounds). She's better than Soleil, but I don't think she's better than Karla or Ayra. Death Blow 4 is inheritable though...my Kagero approves...

Veronica is my favourite of the bunch. If her BST wasn't so horrific I'd probably +10 her eventually. Her weapon is straight up busted and she's obviously the best support in the game. In this arena meta where cheerleaders reign supreme, she's obviously excellent. With close counter and Drive Attack 2 seal she scores 732 without blessings - so maybe she's not totally hopeless. She might just be a solid investment.

tl;dr pick whichever armour unit best compliments your stable.
