I've read the little drabble challenge with the crew of Firefly raising a child!Harry. It's got some moments, but child!Harry = suck almost always.

I'm wondering if anyone's read and recommends any Firefly fics? Or for that matter knows of any other Firefly/HP crossovers?

Both because I loved the show and movie (Serenity) and also because after I finish You Did What?! I'm heavily considering writing a HP/Firefly crossover. Got some fun ideas for it.

Anyone? I searched a little of the Firefly fics on fanfiction.net and nothing really caught my eye. Looking for a recommendation.

Firefly was a TV show about futuristic renegade/thieves with hearts of gold. Sort of. Sci-Fi crossed with Western, in a way. From Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy/Angel tv shows... The show was painfully canceled despite critical acclaim and found a large audience with it's DVD release and was recently turned into a major motion picture called "Serenity" (The name of their spaceship, it's a 'firefly' class).

"Browncoats" are what the fans are called etc...

I started to read a HP/Firefly crossover, but it was quite short and I haven't looked for any more updates. Anyway the concept is good and Firefly was one of the better series I have seen.


But if you are going to do a crossover; what about Farscape? I think Farscape is a lot better than firefly.

I've never seen Farscape.

And actually, that was one of the biggest reasons I found Firefly so easy to get into and love: Because there's only ever been like 14 episodes and now the movie. Most of those other fanboy type shows, like Buffy for example, you've got 7 seasons worth and weeks and weeks of backstory/characters/ideas you should be aware of. You can only really crossover with another genre you have a decent background in, characters you know, etc... Having never seen Farscape, Stargate SG-1, no more than maybe a dozen episodes of Buffy and 2 or 3 of Angel, I never considered using them. I bought Firefly:The Complete Series DVD, have seen all the eps twice, and the movie Serenity on DVD too. Much easier and more familiar. And also, it's mainly about what you like, and it's the characters and attitude of the characters you have to like.

Joss Whedon makes some great interaction and characters, and I'd consider Buffy, it's just too much source material out there already. Picked up the first four seasons on DVD a while back (which now I could have gotten all seasons in the chosen collection for what I paid) and I think I only ever got to the third disc in season one. Firefly would be harder to get into I think if there were a half dozen seasons.

And I can see how one episode wouldn't have enticed ip82 at all. It is one of those shows, where investing the time to watch many episodes is sometimes necessary to really love the chemistry between characters and get into it ("Jaynestown" and the song about the Hero of Canton brings tears to my eyes it's so funny, but if I hadn't seen the other episodes it wouldn't be anywhere near as hilarious). Firefly sort of got cut off just as it was getting into it's groove and really peaking towards a great run... at least it felt that way to me. The movie Serenity was soooo much more action than the show, and explained all the back story the show was hinting at. And the potential comparisons between Reavers and Dementors seem pretty obvious too.

I think I've been getting burnt out on the repetitive-ness of so many HP fanfics that I would prefer catering to a pigeon-holed but more enthusiastic audience. And Firefly is like still soft clay, because of it's brevity. None of the hook-ups, aside from Wash and Zoe, were really even reached. Although Serenity did have the Doc and Kaylee finally get theirs. Even still... it's like HP fanfic after GOF or even OotP. Wide open for tons of ideas. HBP closes more and more doors as we near a conclusion, and the doors left... don't interest me as much. (Snape? Still alive? Bleh.)

 

I have bought all Buffy and Angel seasons, and downloaded Firefly. I've seen them all and could not agree more with nonjon. It's my favorite show. I have never seen Farscape, it never looked all that intesting to me. I would have posted this topic myself if my last one had more sucsess. I will be very interested in any fics that have come up.
