And yeah, no one doubted Souma would win, but it's still nice that they played up an aspect of his cooking style that led to victory, rather than just going 'well he just did it better, duh'.

I still don't get all the hype for Rindou. Her character screams 'archetype', but someone forgot to actually stop pouring from the bottle of 'unique, special snowflake'.

Also, lol @ most of the chapter being a massively cringy info-dump explaining exactly that, and Megishima was like 'lol, me? Scared?'

He had one page and it did a better job than Rindou's mess of a character exposition.

But I guess she's a hot, confident anime girl so that instantly makes her a well-crafted character.

I can't really call her Best Girl when she willingly sided with and enabled Culinary Umbridge. The whole Central thing is a huge deal breaker with Rindou.

 

To be fair, I get the feeling it's less she sided with Central, and more she sided with Tsukasa (1st Seat guy)

 

No appreciable difference to me, unfortunately. Her motivation is of no relevance, and neither is Tsukasa's or any other member of the Central E10's. Azami is the most fail antagonist I've seen in quite some time, and anyone who sits in his camp is tarred with the same brush.

 

I almost feel like there must be some kind of double agent shenanigans going on, 'cuz as faulty as the logic of Azami's cooking philosophy is to begin with, the whole background we just got on Rindou is that she loves weird and novel food combinations, which is diametrically opposed to what Azami's claiming his aims are. Or maybe the author is just being very lazy with his characters.

That would be a little...yeah. Rindou being a double agent against Central doesn't work because of the fact that all she would ever have needed to do in order to keep Azami out of Tootsuki is to not give her vote to let him replace Senzaemon. Without her support, the Elite Ten doesn't have the majority needed to oust the old regime.

 

Been doing a rereading of the manga and just got to the end of the Elections. Man, that result still pisses me off to this day.
