Off topic, but in answer to this question, I'd say it varies by location. There are some places in the country where high school football is among the most popular local pastimes - in fact in some extremely rural areas it's the only pastime. For larger schools with decent teams in football-happy areas, routine crowds of thousands are the norm.

The extreme example is this monstrosity, which will cost as much as many entire high schools.

The most important thing about soccer, is to remember to have your characters, fall on the ground, writhing in feigned agony, and crying like little girls, when the other team comes within 2 feet of them.

Yea-ah ... except that's what the Premier League is known for not being like. You know.

But feel free to try again next time.

Yes, HS football here in America generally pulls in a decent crowd of at least students and family. The bigger schools known for football (around where I live for example, a school like Independence) can get large crowds to every game.

Dunno about Canada though, and don't know too much about the UK either.

As for writing about football (of the soccer variety) it would probably be good to at least go through some of the different terminology. The rest can be BS'd well enough.

Things like pitch = field, boots = cleats, etc.

It'd probably be best to just write it up and then later post it in WbA and the British/Footy fans on the forum can tell you what is messed up with it.

I preferred the Torres at the World Cup version, but class nonetheless. Some of these dives are just so glaringly obvious that you can't help but wonder what the guy hoped to achieve.

Then again...sometimes the official is actually stupid enough to fall for it. Oh well.

Football in the UK (never call it soccer), at school level you have a league system and cup system that go hand in hand at school or Sunday and Saturday level. You will play in a league with surrounding schools or teams in an area and enter a cup as well which will probably have a larger catchment area.

For my academy game when I was 16, Crystal Palace vs Liverpool we pulled in 2500 spectators so not too bad. Sundays only dads and die hards will be there.

Maybe true a few years ago, not anymore though. Mainly due to the influx of foreigners, however English players enjoy the odd dive too, just don't get it highlighted by the media.

Ehh. When I watch a match there and compare it to one in the Bundesliga, then there definitely still is a difference. Perhaps we're so used to it that anyplace where it's less pronounced stands out >_>

In any case though, HP is set in the early nineties, and we're talking about school level competition, so there :p

:awesome You win. Good point about the time difference, do you happen to know if the golden goal rule was in place then?

The best teams in Tampa, Armwood and Plant usually top 10 in the nation just play at the Buccaneers stadium. It makes everything far easier:p

Even though it would get abused to hell, I miss the ability to lock threads that you yourself started.

If a mod could do so, that would be nice.
