They just took down both my stories. Why?
So… Jackass and Fucking aren’t acceptable under a G-rating. That’s understandable I suppose, if silly considering the wealth of non-G rated stories on this site in the first place, easily available to any kid who clicks their mouse.

But couldn’t they just tell me, ask me to change the titles/summary? Would have gladly done it without a peep. Instead they take down both stories and tell me I’m suspended from uploading.

    Cunts. :sherlock:

What is this G-Rating they speak of?

Great that they have the total overview over their rating categories. That aside, what I especially like is that their rating guide is entirely unhelpful because it is so relative it's ridiculous.

@Hash: Try writing to the 'support'. You won't ever get an answer, of course, but it's worth a try.

They removed it because all story summaries have to be G rated in content, even if the story is rated M.

Er, if your fic was labeled M, then you should definitely contest the first fic being removed. Fics rated M aren't even shown until you manually force the search options to show them. Given that, the summary and title doesn't have to be G-rated, since they're not supposed to be looking at them anyways.

The second one... yeah, sorry, it's rated T, you shouldn't have made that your title.

M rated fics do show up if you're using the word search feature, or if you're looking at the author profiles. So I doubt they'll go back on it.

Oh, true enough. Yeah, sorry Hash, looks like the ffnet admins were in the right here. Obviously they should've notified you and asked you yourself to either take down the stories or modify the titles and summaries, but they've never given anyone else warning before, either.

Meh, fuck it. This'll sound childish, but I'm just not going to bother putting them back up. Can't be bothered. :sherlock:

Don't blame you. How the hell is "Jackass" not G-rated? How many little kids saw/heard the word on MTV? Fucking insane.

"Reunions Are a Bitch" was taken down for the exact same reason.

I'm now pondering an edit for my co-authored story, 'Harry Potter, Magnificent Bastard'...

    Edit: and done.

I'd do it just to be safe. 'Harry Potter, Magnificent Scoundrel' maybe? Not quite the same punch, I know, but bastard has kick for a reason.

It's probably not 'jackass' they have a problem with. Believe it or not, some people consider 'shit' to be a swear. I wouldn't say it around a kid.

I hate to be the killjoy in this ff.net hate-fest, but it is in their guidelines (I actually remember finding the rule odd when I first signed up):

You all do have a point, though. They've always been all "nuke all, ask no questions", which is made more infuriating by the fact that they appear to choose which rules to enforce and which reports to listen to by tossing them all into a hat and taking out a handful at random.

I've reported stories for breaking multiple rules, some users for being plagiarists, sometimes even obvious spam accounts, and then find them still up months or years later.

I can't find the information now that I'm looking for it, but I remember when ff.net changed its rating system.

The explanation ff.net gave was that the film rating system was copyrighted or something and that it couldn't be used by anyone that wasn't the MPAA, and apparently they and other websites were contacted and ordered to stop using it. So then they had to hurry up and find a new rating system that wasn't protected, and that's what they came up with.

I think that mediaminer.org changed its rating system around the same time.

Eh, you're not really being a killjoy, nobody was saying that it wasn't against their rules. :p If you read the thread, you'd notice things like:

They're still dicks though, as you said. They pick and choose what they enforce.

God, no. That's childish, stupid, and completely mangles a well known phrase.

Just censor it in such a way that it's obviously censored: Magnificent B-----d.

That way you don't look like an idiot, and, to the individual paying a little bit of attention, the staff look a little silly.

Frankly, the people working the abuse reports on that site are as useless as tits on a boar hog. I've lost count of the stories I've reported for flagrant violations of the site's rules, which are STILL up. :facepalm

Either they're lazy, or they pick and choose what to enforce... and always pick the pettiest, most nit-picky stuff to put their jackboots down on.

Yeah, they might just have a lot of reports to go through, but months and months with no action? Whatever.
