Oh Dear God... Hippy!Gay!Dumbledore... I think I may have to take Syao's advice and rip out my eyes with a spoon. Hmm... Wonder if they'd go well in an omelette.

Does this make all writers who include an "evil Dumbledore" in their stories homophobic?

No, but it does put a new spin on Harry's accusations about Dumbledore's perverted nature in Shezza's, The Denarian Renegade. >_<

Hopefully, I can pretend that this whole sorry episode never happened. I'm trusting that the DLP's fic selections will tend towards those authors who don't make a big deal out of this. I hate reading slash: canon or not.

Many people are still annoyed at JKR's retcon of Dumbledore's age, and stick to the original number she gave in an interview, which was 150.

The funny thing about that particular change is that it seems to fit with her tendency to be bad at mathematics - I have to wonder if she has a kind of dyslexia specific to numbers (I don't know the exact name for it) and mentally thought "115" and in the interview said "150" and then afterwards, said, "oh, bollocks, now I have to fix it later on."

Anyway that was a bit off topic so getting back to the main subject, I think after the controversy dies down we may find that the concerns regarding fanfic proliferation were a bit heightened. :)

115 is incorrect. He died in the early summer of 1997. It shows how much thought she put into her 'Wizard of the Month' and how she disregarded her own statement that wizards aged slowly (and lived twice as long) so that McGonagall still had black hair in her 70s.

July 1980 - Birthdate of Harry Potter
    September 1991 - First Year
June 1992 - End of First Year
    September 1996 - Sixth Year
June 1997 - End of Sixth Year, Death of Dumbledore

So I take it we can almost entirely agree that Dumbledore=Gay is not cannon?

There doesn't seem to be much of anything (to me) to support such a thing in the books. Though their wasn't anything to distictly disprove it either. Dumbledore was better left as an enigma to be debated than this, even if you're one who considers him a senile or manipulative bastard.

Considering what's been leaving JKR lips after the last book maybe we should assume everything written or verbally declared after book 7 doesn't automatically qualify as cannon.

Hell, even some of the stuff that came out before HPDH was questionable in my view . . .

I didn't read all the replies in this thread, didn't really have time. I did however, want to point out my views on this. 1. Sales are lagging now that the book has been out a few months. On top of that, sales for the previous six are really lagging. What better way to re-create intrest than to throw out the "Dumbledore is gay" comment.

On another note I was refered to a post written by a conserned teacher. In the post she basically said that she was haveing enough problems getting her school to except having "Harry in the classroom", she deems it will be almost impossible now.

Way to go Rowling, you just screwed many conservative people's kids out of being able to read the books.

The last thing I want to say/ask? Does anyone else get the feeling that there are two authors to the HP books? I mean books 1-4 seem to be written by an entirely different person that books 6-7. Book, five seems to be a mixture of the two. Err...I am not claiming she didn't write all the books, it's just that there are glaring differences (plot wise, and world creation wise). And now to just come out and say Dumbledore is gay just seems to add to this theory.

I just can't buy the argument about sales lagging. I mean sure, there are less of the books being sold, but there's a good reason for that other than the rapid decline in quality in the last books:

Everyone and their mother already own the damn things.

I'm much more inclined to lean towards 'Ill conceived political statement' or 'attention seeking whoredom.'

Of course, precedent shows us that odds are fairly decent that next interview we'll discover Dumbledore and Sprout have been at it for years, and Harry got mpreged right after the epilogue.

[21:12] <Saruman> Michael Gambon (who plays Dumbledore)
[21:12] <Saruman> is not fucking gay.
    [21:12] <Saruman> He supports gays.
[21:12] <Saruman> Gambon married Anne Miller when he was 22, but has always been secretive about his personal life, responding to one interviewer's question about her: "What wife?" The couple lived together in a country house near Gravesend in Kent, where potter Anne has her workshop. Gambon was invested by Prince Charles as a Knight Bachelor on 17 July 1998 for services to drama (Queen Elizabeth II's approval for the award was notified in New Years Day 1998 Honours List) and his wife thus became Lady Gambon.[5] [6] The couple have a son, Fergus, who appears as an expert on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow.
[21:13] <Saruman> Do some research before making comments.
[21:13] <Saruman> The person who plays Gandalf (Ian McKellen) is gay.

In honor of this most memorable occasion I have created this avatar to uphold the integrity of, not only Albus Dumbledore, but the entire staff of Hogwarts.

Also, I would like to say that I totally support JK Rowling's new and rapidly advancing drug addiction, and furthermore suggest that in her next interview she forgets to wear her underwear and slyly moves her legs to reveal where the real inspiration for Hermione Granger's hairstyle comes from.

    And that's the Word.

Damn fucking right! Was there ever any doubt? Unless you are Jo "Kracked-Up" Rowling, or one of her millions of slash fangirls, or perhaps a gay-rights activist

Harry trudged up to the tower, weary after another of Dumbledore's private lessons. His mind was fuzzy, as if he could not remember something that had happened just recently. Shaking the feeling off, he walked into the common room - finding Ron, Hermione, and Ginny looking back at him with worried faces.

"Harry, mate...I don't think these private lessons are a good idea." Ron blurted out.
"I have to learn!" Harry cried, "These memories are the key to Voldemort!"
"Harry it's just - you being alone with Dumbledore... It's just..." Ron turned a bright red. "um see...I think maybe the Headmaster hits his bludgers at the other goals..." Ron's voice trailed away in embarassment.

Harry laughed. "Ron, I don't think quidditch has anything to do with it. Trust you and your one way mind!"
"I think what Ron means Harry is that...well the headmaster prefers to keep his wand in the back holster." Ginny tried to make Harry understand.

Again Harry laughed, "Oh Gin...I didn't think know you looked so closely" Harry smirked, throwing her a wink. Mortified, Ginny stepped back.

"Oh for goodness sakes Harry! Honestly the three of you, just say it already. Harry we think Albus Dumbledore is gay!"

Silence. Stretching on for minutes, complete and utter silence.

"That son of a bitch", Harry whispered so quietly the others had to strain to hear him. "Power of Love..."

I have to say that the unfortunate revelation that the Old Champion of the Light swings his bat for the other team puts new light into ''So sue me'' by lunakatrina.

    Quote:

    “Well, my dear boy—”
“What are you a pervert?” Harry demanded, “Because I can assure you, I’m not your dear anything…unless you pay in me in small countries and magical creatures. Then I’m sure we could work something out.”

    Such foresight from her/him...

This really pisses me off. Like someone said earlier, if she's gonna make a character gay, do it in the book, not months afterwards to boost sales and get attention.
