Can we propose a DLP mission to assassinate her. This shit is getting ridculous. Gay Dumbledore? Er .... no. Dumbledore is a manipulative fuck ... it wasn't love that pissed him off when Grindelwald did his thing ... it was anger for not doing it himself.

It's not the shit itself I'm worried about, it's the fanfiction. DumbGrin shippers will be abounding before long... eh, that's now.
Why the hell did JKR have to announce this? It's the kind of thing she should have kept to herself.
I won't say too much about this, I'm still in shock... just read the interview, I'm a little behind the news.

You know I just realized something. It's been mentioned that Rowling informed the director of the last movie and had to have a line removed from the script, which supposedly involved a note to the screenwriters saying Dumbles was gay . . .

    1) Does anyone hear really think that wouldn't have leaked out somehow?

    2) Has any body asked the screenwriters and/or the director if that really happened? Cause, frankly, after listening to/reading all of those JKR interviews before reading DH, I don't think the woman is all that truthful . . .

Actually, the fact that Dumbledore is gay had been well known since the books became an international hit. I've known dozens of people who, even without having read the books, came to the conclusion that "Dumbledore is gay".

To be fair to her though, Remus Lupin, particularly the Remus in the films, would have been worse choice as far as creating gay stereotypes go.

By the way, did you know that "Albus Dumbledore" is an anagram for "Male bods rule, bud"?

Potter fans get the last say, not Rowling

    Harry Potter fans, relax.

    Gay-rights activists, hold your applause.

    Social conservatives, stop your complaining.

J.K. Rowling declaring Albus Dumbledore gay doesn't make it so.

This is quoted from a Chicago Tribune article by Stephan Benzkofer who is, apparently, "the Tribune's Page One news editor". The article goes on to invoke Tolkien, a book/baby analogy, and accuses Rowling of playing the part of the overprotective mother, further declaring that she lost her chance to have the definitive last word on everything Harry Potter when the final book hit the press.

    Amen.

Oh god the comments from that article.

He's right, once a book is published and read by millions, the author can say all they want, but if it the book leaves it ambiguous or contrary to that, the book trumps the author.

Now, if she wrote and published more information and stories, perhaps a book of short stories in the HP universe, that's different.

Much like Tolkien did in his many works or Herbert in the Dune series.

I think clearly Jk Rowling should be shot for opening her big fat mouth about crap that real people could care less about!Oh, and honestly the (gay) community is quite pathetic if there in a happy mood about her support of them(oh God that was a cheesy joke)

Has she said anything about writing another book just about information?

oh and vlad..I don't know anyone who has thought that Dumbledore is gay after reading the entire series until she said it. I just could not/would not picture Dumbledore as some homo ..hes 100+ years old and honestly that's unfair to people of jk to say he was gay..kinda ruined alot of it for me.

yes...I am aware that no one got it before she went and stated it. I do however, refuse to write '/sarcasm' despite the fact that tone does not carry through text.

I did however, specifically say 'people who did not read the book'. Perhaps it is simply because I'm living in uberreligious!Georgia, but around here most people use 'gay' as synonymous with stupid, pointless, what have you. So people I went to school with, when Harry Potter came up, simply said. "Harry Potter is gay" or "Dumbledore is gay". I find it amusing that technically, they were correct.

Then you'd have people saying that if it's not in the 7-books proper then its not canon. There's always going to be people bitching no matter what the medium is (kind of like how some DLPers keep saying that HBP/DH is not canon) if they don't like what she has to say.

    As for the revelation...

Notice that she uses the phrasing 'I always thought'. I personally hold with the idea that this is her interpretation of the text, especially since she used this specific phrasing. I think it's great for her that this is her understanding of Dumbledore, but this doesn't necessarily change my personal interpretation of him at all. I prefer to think of him as asexual, for reasons already stated in this thread.

I thought that was Slughorn. :p (Seriously, I always thought his showmanship style in HBP was like a used-car salesman, and it couild possibly be interpreted just a bit creepily how Slughorn surrounds himself with young, attractive and politically safe teenagers; in the 1940s, it was all the up-and-coming Slytherins, and by the 1970s and 1990s, people who were slated to get good jobs, and were at least 'acceptable' to the mainstream of wizarding society - like Harry Potter or Blaise Zabini.)

But that's drifting off topic - that People magazine cover is a pretty good Photoshop. :) Cracked me up.

I didn't read it as gay=stupid either. Sure, gay=stupid is a common enough turn of phrase, but it is not obvious that your post is based on this gay pun. It is somewhat amusing though.

Oh god, no. The Dumbledore slash is going to flourish because of this. I might just give up all hope.

seriously..... this came out of the same part of her ass that harry/ginny came out of.
i have nothing against the idea of being gay, this just seems like something she randomly made up on the spot.
