I hope he has more success, but at the same time I dont think Fnatic will reach as high as they did before. Im seeing a lot of parallels with Edward from M5/Gambit. Succeed in EU, go for the cash in NA then try to make it in EU again.

Playing the exact same comp in a row, made me both sad and happy.

Happy they were confident in their strategy. Sad in that they were right, but then decided to throw it away anyway.

 

Eh, CLG picked a comp with 0 reliable CC against an extremely mobile team and got spanked for it. Also putting your strongest player on Soraka & then she gets played like a front line tank. What?

Game 3 felt like utter desperation, though with that said I really liked the Nami pick up from SKT. More mobility & more slows to kite back with, certainly beat seeing Alistar again.

 

Tbh the only real counter to Nami is a pick support with some range like Thresh or Annie or Leona. But Lucky made a good point to new high was "how to engage vs Ez and Azir".

Sooo, is anyone else pleasantly surprised by how well TSM has been doing? And feeling rather apprehensive that they're peaking at the wrong time and other teams will figure them out before or at Worlds and we get another 0-6 the dream?

It's nice to see them reach the potential they had in the spring, but I'm still a little worried because all good things must come to an end, right?

 

TSM look brilliant at the moment. I find myself constantly impressed by Biofrost, who seems to have clicked far harder than Yellowstar ever did despite being a rookie, and Doublelift is showing us once again that he is still a top tier ADC.

Whether that's going to be sufficient to overcome the behemoth that is this year's SKT, I don't know. Probably not, though.

Yeah Biofrost looks like an amazing pickup for TSM. I'm hesitating on jumping on the hype train simply because I've done that in the past so many times (Hello 2015 MSI) and TSM have failed me rather spectacularly each time.

All KR teams that aren't SKT are looking like t r a s h. (poor ssumday, rip KT; samsung are tilt lords who don't have a fraction of the talent of S4 samsung teams yet somehow are super high up in the standings, Afreeca are literally KR streamers - it's like if you put QTpie and friends into LCS and they were smashing for some reason, Jin Air plays games that last as long as Jin Air flights to other continents, Longzhu has the second or third best player in nearly ever position but somehow play like absolute trash because of the LGD effect)

China is an absolute shitshow, except at the top of the league where they understand macro to a degree that Western teams theoretically should, but simply have such talented players that you can count on them to make the outplay and factor it into your playbook (Uzi, Clearlove, the entire S4 Samsung meme squads, up and coming chinese players that casually managed to climb through the hell of both Ionia and KR just to get noticed like Xiye and Mystic, etc etc helllllllooooo???!!!)

EU look like absolute trash and when they play to their "highest level" or whatever the fuck, they manage to invent a laneswap that forces you to play out the steps with them and leaves everyone missing two T1s in their long lanes with easily refreshed vision and test teams with a single teamfight in every single game. The problem is EU is actually garbage at teamfighting compared to other regions, which is hilarious, so you have teams like G2 who have just a bit more synergy than the rest actually managing to go pretty much undefeated via skirmishes and five mans, which is gonna lead to them being absolutely rolled by China and KR and to a lesser extent NA.

And then we have NA, which is a little better than EU. All the lower tier teams play the safe-laneswap EU style, but the good teams play the aggressive swap in which you trade one tower and go into laning phase to garner advantages for picks like Ez and Cait, and you commit people to the dank-meme double tp on one ward shitnanigans which was cool when we first saw it but literally everyone just expects it now lol.

So yeah you like, get your tear fast as fuck and you manage to get over the BF hump into Cait's plateau or whatever with the hope that you can punish by diving mid over and over again which means that your midlaners do most of the heavy lifting. Good thing we have Soren Bjerg and Eugene J. Park and Jensen Ddossen as our representative midlaners because all of them have shown this season (even our "middle of the pack" - get the fuck out of here with that btw - Pobelter) that they can literally hard carry games on shit like Viktor and Azir with immaculate wave control and the ability to walk out of karma-sped up ganks from reksai (wtf??!! that shouldn't be possible if you play it right they should at least have to flash lol)

Anyway that's why CLG's literally trash right now because Huhi's a garbage feeder, and that's why Liquid can barely get off the ground because Fenix is used to afk-farming mid with control mages when the meta right now is pushing dangerously with control mages and Personal Mid Ward Management TM (if Hai wasn't garbage mechanically after not playing mid for so long, he would be the god of this meta, that guy spent more money on wards than any other midlaner in NA, historically lol, nowadays he's getting solo'd in Challenger series by Poppers LOL)

Added to the fact that WE DOTA NOW BOYZ with Vlad and Swain and fucking "hey you guys build BKB first over there, well I'll raise you an ITEM THAT GIVES YOU ONLY HEALTH AND MAGIC RESIST ON MY DRAIN TANK, LET'S DO THIS, WE'RE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS haHaa", you need midlaners who can do all of that, understand their damage output with no damage items at all (so like, Ryze, except you don't actually do as much damage as Ryze, nor are the cooldowns as lenient), so you have this weird ass meta in which midlaners can play literally anything - as long as they shit on their opponents and their other lanes don't lose... or they have to play meta shit (vlad, swain, viktor, azir, karma) and still ape the fuck out.

So you look at NA and all the teams that are doing well have top laners who can play carries (Impact, Huni, Hauntzer) with little to no LEVELS (not gold, they actually get decent gold nowadays, they're just super behind on exp, which always weirds me out with Irelia picks because every level is a new powerspike for her lol), mids who can push, not die and get solokills (Bjerg, Jensen, Pob) and bot lanes who can garner advantages and move in the direction of distressed junglers (WT/Adrian, Sneaky/whoeverthefuckhe'scarrying, Double/Bardfrost).

When they play vs SKT, they're going to be outmatched in at least 1, maybe 3 positions (Duke is a monster, Faker is the best player fullstop, Bang and Wolf are solid as fuck and can carry), when they play vs RNG, they might have the best chance because their mid isn't the greatest (though he's clearly quite good) but Looper is solid SS tier, Uzi and Mata are the pinnacle of their roles, when they play vs EDG (with pawn and koro) they're literally playing against SKT except the weight isn't mid it's in the botlane with Deft being the best AD in the world at this point, with a jungler who has the best decisionmaking in the world (EDG's weird in that once every like, 3 games or so, you just can't stop the Clearlove train).
