While there are tons of HP fanfics that talks about the wizarding society in general, most of them is contextualised to the United Kingdom.

So I was wondering, has there ever been a HP story that deals with the geo-political aspect of the wizarding world? A story that explores how the various wizarding government react when Voldermort rise to power fo the second time?

It would be interesting. However it must be remembered that the Harry Potter books take place in an AU in which most is the same but the continents of North and South America do not exist.

I'd be interested in seeing how wizard governments organize themselves, do they follow muggle borders or just ignore them?

Many stories involve France, due to their proximity as neighbors but mostly because of Fleur. It's convenient to have her or her family high-ranking executives in government or diplomats. Worldwide I don't know any stories. =D

Haha, what? Do you mean in the context of the wizarding world, or just in general? I would think that'd have a major effect on climate and whatnot...

Also, I think I recall nuhuh's 'In the Clockface, Weighted and Weary' started to deal with international magical politics, but it didn't get very far.

It's even news to Rowling, what with her mentioning Salem and Peruvian Darkness Powder. That's not even including Quidditch Through the Ages, which brings up the new world implicitly.

I think this world governments idea would probably have to include the Grindelwald wars as well.

I wrote a fic about how the US wizard world reacted to the second rise of Voldemort. It's in work by author.

In the last post of the thread, since I re-write it but couldn't edit it after so long. It's also on ff.net, here.

Nonjon did a oneshot, found in his What A Bunch of Nonjon, on geopolitical ramifications of the magical world.

Most people seem to forget that Voldemort's war was an international one. Sure, most of the action was centred in Britain, but he also operated in at least France and Germany (French giants as allies, broke into Nurmengard to kill Grindelwald).

Yeah, but you never see anything about the foreign governments.

Which is a sad thing. There are many uncharted ground for fanfic authors to explore, yet few authors dared to take a step forward.

People don't do it because eventually it's no longer HP but Tom Clancy.

Great Britain's ministry of magic is from what i understood a sub division to the real ministry. Or is that simply fanon?

I encourage you to find the literary bone in your body, remove it and snap it. Then grind it into a fine powder and burn it.

The name Ministry of Magic implies it. It takes the same format as Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Agriculture, etc.

I recall in HBP that Fudge was required by law to inform the PM when dangerous creatures were being brought in.

Page 7 I think of HBP.
"Oh, and I almost forgot," Fudge had added. "We're importing three foreign dragons and a sphinx for the Triwizard Tournament, quite routine, but the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures tells me that its down in the rule book that we have to notify you if we're bringing highly dangerous creatures into the country."
