Vash, I doubt I could agree more, but possibly (and I don't always believe this but it should provoke debate) JKR was being deliberately horrible, because there is a reason 'sixth-form poetry' is a dire insult to a writer, namely that many teenagers do write, think and say this crap thinking it's deep. The 'chest monster' isn't JKR being a crap romance writer, it's poking fun at her own leads' teenage stupidity. I like believing this, it it allows me to laugh mightily at the idiot fangirls who took it seriously, and think well of one of my favourite authors. Harry *is* prone to melodrama when he has too much time to stew, see most of OotP, and it's not like he's got much experience of lust, let alone love, is it?

Oh, and for the record fanon!Ginny gets on my nerves intensely and her excoriation here is pretty much the only character-bashing I don't mind, because it's damn funny.
