I too have started a story with this premise. However, as a twist, Voldemort realizes that Harry is one of his Horcruxes (because the Voldemort I'm writing isn't a retard).

Because of this, he imprisons Harry in the most notorious prison - Nurmengard. Everyone believes Harry dead, and that suits Voldemort just fine.

Basic premise - Harry learns from nearby prisoner Grindelwald and escapes with him in a Count of Monte Cristo-esque beginning. 8 years later, they escape together and find the remnants of the Order surviving in an England ruled by Voldemort.

That's certainly unique. I've only read perhaps one story where Harry and Grindelwald partner up (I've forgotten it by now). But, the idea of them escaping Nurmengard together sounds appealing. Very neat idea - I'd love to see it in WbA.

I couldn't be damned to read all the posts after my last one, however I doubt anyone has suggested mine. What if you went the route of having a not incompetent Dumbledore. It turns out he knew Moody was a Death Eater the entire time and he was using him as bait. By the time the third task comes around Dumbledore knows that Crouch is going to have to make his move soon so he puts tracking charms on the contestants as well as some basic things to check on their health (but wouldn't draw notice from the other headmasters). When the portkey goes off Dumbledore uses the tracking charm to figure out where Harry and Cedric went.

By the time he arrives however, Cedric has died and Voldemort is back torturing Harry. Dumbledore comes to the rescue and decides it's time to tell Harry the prophecy and start training him. While I realize this idea could definitley use some polishing, I think it would provide an interesting opportunity to the author since they would have a blank slate to do as they chose with a Harry that is only entering 5th year.

Harry Potter and the Orb of Slytherin or something like that is the story you're referring to I think...Harry goes to a cave where Dumbledore imprisoned Grindelwald in some fashion or another. Harry learns from him about a staff he had bought, and gets the Orb of Slytherin for said staff.

I don't remember finishing the story, but it was pretty good. Maybe I can find a link or something if anyone wants it. I'm sure it's on one of my saved sessions.

Edit: http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=2266 <--- Linkage. I'm pretty sure it's not the right story now...It wasn't Dumbledore and Grindelwald; it was Gryffindor and Slytherin... >.>

I do remember reading a story like you mentioned at one time, I just have no idea what it was called.

Right, that wasn't it. It was the one where Harry gets trained by Grindelwald and ends up having a duel to the death with him as a final lesson in the middle of the story - and wins. It involved a lot of massive explosions and what not. If anyone knows that story, please link it.

That's it! I loved the premise and (most) of the execution (plotwise) of that story. The author did a pretty good job of combining the different FF systems. Too bad it's abandoned.

Oh lols. I read this ages ago and have been looking for it for a while to re-read. Nothing exceptional, but it kept me entertained.

Sounds like one of the more awesome ideas I've heard in a while. Enough AU so that it hasn't been done 1,376 times before, with a promise of a competent Harry who knows how to fight and an interesting setting -- Voldemort ruling Britain.

    Definitely do want.

As long as you don't spend half the story describing Harry's training with Grindelwald, that is :p

From nothing but your description, I'd love to read that story. Have you posted any of it yet, and if so, where? And if not, why the hell not?!?

I really enjoyed that story. It was well-written and not full of cliches and stupid fanboy/fangirl crap.

Wow, consider me surprised at the positive attention that little description has garnered!

I have not posted this idea anywhere yet...but I might revise it and post some here in WbA, since so many people seem interested. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to write lately, which is why I haven't posted the updates to any of the stories (though I am at least 6-9k into the next chapters of each story); I'm hoping this will be remedied soon, so look for something from me.

I think that dig at training was about my story "Alchemist's Apprentice"...yeah, sorry.

But no, I intended it more like Count of Monte Cristo - by the third chapter or so, they'd be breaking out of Nurmengard and finding themselves in the reshaped world.

Exhaustive training scenes are something I've already done in Unlocked Knowledge and Alchemist's Apprentice...anyone who wants another, just reread one of those!

If anyone's still interested, I posted the first teaser prologue bit in WbA. More to come.
