I have been looking for a good Harry as a treasure hunter story for a while. something that has him cast as a sort of Nate Drake from Uncharted.

 

Well, there's always Jbern's Bungle in the Jungle and its sequel Turn Me Loose, which feature cursebreaker!Harry.

 

Ranger Harry while he is in the D&D world it has a certain strange charm. When he gets to Hogwarts it's getting boring quickly. So you get at least 1 chapter of treasure looting

Most people have probably read Bungle already, but if you haven't, be prepared to slog through a ton of pointless filler and a shoehorned pairing.

Another treasure hunting type (sort of) story would be the Death Gate Trilogy

Okay, I'll give you that the pairing was stupid and extraneous. JBern should've either left the pairing blank or, well, I can't think of anything else. It should've been couched as No Pairing.


But 'pointless filler'? I'm curious as to what part of Bungle you felt was pointless or filler, because even the weakest part (the Brazilian MILF) was decent for getting Harry (a) laid like a rug, and (b) an 'in' with the Brazilian Ministry, which he exploited like a mutha.


And surely you don't see any of Harry's training with Kwan or the time in the hidden city as filler, because the latter was some of the freshest and most satisfying fight scenes I've read, especially if you take the fic's age into account.


Sorry for the Spoilers, but as I said it's an older fic and I'm on a phone at present anyway.

 

Everything to do with dodgespell. And the Brazilian Milf (too convenient/contrived/heavy handed) . Kwan is awesome, the old curse breaker (before dying) was awesome, the city was awesome, the demon fight was epic. I like the story, but it's probably about 40k words longer than what it needed to be, but, to be fair, it's been at least a year since I've read it. But, on the other hand, it's been a year and I still remember a lot about it, which is more to say about some fics that I've even read a month ago. Regardless of taste, there's a lot of memorable scenes.

 

I haven't really enjoyed the MILF parts at first either because I obviously preferred the action but from a story aspect I can understand it. He needed something else than jungle and permanent suspense. And it lead to the really great ending of that sub plot in the villa and Harry's personality growth. So in the end I have nothing to complain about it. Rereading the whole story might help setting it in perspective.

This is sort of what you're looking for, I guess. I haven't really read it, so I have no idea about its quality or its future direction, but I do know that the author has 'done a Blaise' on Vector.

(Done a Blaise - before HBP, people assumed Blaise was a girl. This story has Prof' Vector as a woman, and not some fugly old man).

 

As far as I know, Vector has always been a woman. When did she change into a man?

 

I believe it was a Potions accident. Or maybe it happened at the same time as she he came into her his full male!Veela powers, which of course sparked the well-known feud between Harry and Draco as they competed to be her his mate.

What? Is that not canon??

 

Septimus Weasley was a man (husband to Cedrella Black on the Black Family Tree), so (in my mind) it's not unreasonable to conclude that Septima Vector was a woman.

Makes even more sense if you speak Spanish, given grammatical gender. That sort of thing more or less vanished from the English Language around the twelfth century. Thank. Fucking. God.

Of course, I'm not a linguist, and only speak English, but I believe I'm on the right track, here.

It is, however, a moot point, given this sentence from the books...

Full Disclosure: Vector's first name isn't truly canon, as far as I know, and only appears in notes, like Tracey Davis in the class list.

 

Diablo3 crossover Harry Potter and the Burning Hells with some potential. At least it feels like playing the game. At the moment I would say it's decent and entertaining. I like Harry's interaction with Tracy. It's not really deep though as the chapters lack length.
