    Title: Griffon Reborn
    Author: Yrtria
    Rating: PG-13
    Genre: drama
    DLP Category: Azkaban
    Pairing: None
    Status: WIP
Summary: Harry suffers a mental breakdown while being convicted to Azkaban. He serves his time and rebuilds his life away from the magical world. His only regret...losing his friends.

For an Azkaban story, I found this refreshing, and comparatively angst free. For one, there's no betrayal by Harry's friends, it's not a plot by Voldemort, and Harry doesn't go on a revenge spree straight out of Azkaban. It's not quite the standard Azkaban plot, because the clichés have been stripped away. There are no pairings listed, and so far no signs of any. Ginny is safely married off, so there's absolutely no chance of the fangirl making an appearence. Ron and Hermione aren't together, either. :) All in all, it departed from the standard pairings all around. The writing is decent, without lots of glaring errors all over the place. The summary stinks, but so far the plot is interesting. This is probably the first story I've seen on ficwad in a long time that's actually worth reading.

It seems to me like its leaning towards a Harry/Hermione ship.

This story didn't have anything new for me, it was forgettable and I got bored halfway through Chapter One, I still carried on though hoping it would get better but I eventually gave up and skim read the last three chapters. Griffon Reborn has just taken different aspects from other Azkaban stories and rewritten it with less emotion all in one story. Call me crazy but there's something really wrong if Harry is accepting of the fact that he went to jail, and don't blame it on a fractured memory because I reckon that's a cop out.

I suppose its better written then half of the Azkaban stories out there but I just can't get into it, maybe its too soon to tell. At this stage, I'd give it a 2.5/5.

I tend to like stories with large amounts of magical theory, so this was not too bad. The Tai Chi bit pissed me off, as did the wandless magic bit (not to mention Ezekiel), but overall it's readable.

    4/5

First impression is that the set-up is rather contrived. Post-OotP Fudge is a lame duck leader. He's lost all credibility and power. He'd never be able to set up that trial. Same with Harry doing what the Dursleys said. Vernon didn't have a leg to stand on, and harry would have known that.

Continuing to read now, but not impressed so far.

Edit: Yeah, by the time I got to chapter 6 I was skimming massive chunks at a time. Absolutely no hook, no interesting plot, unrealistic, no originality, some Brit-pick problems, writing style is adequate but nothing special. 2/5.

And you still gave it a 2/5? surely a fic with no redeaming qualities deserves a 1/5?

I agree with Taure. It was pretty damn boring, to say the least. I also give it a 2/5.

Firstly, it's got okay writing, so it has one partially redeeming quality.

But even if it didn't have that, I save 1/5 for the My Immortals of the fanfiction world. Stories that aren't just bad, but offend me morally.

There's a lot of fail in this fic, such as the Tai Chi shit and Ezekial, as mentioned already. I wouldn't have minded the latter that much if Harry's subconscious wasn't actually given a name. Still, it'd be good to see it gradually influence his personality and eventually become one with his conscious.

Harry is way more skilled at magic when Ezekial takes over him, though apparently isn't all godly...yet anyway.

The biggest draw of the fic was Harry's experience with woodworking and wandcrafting under Ollivander. It's something I've never seen before (disregrading Fission's Unknown Memories, which have Harry training under Ollivander, but basically has no mentions of Harry as a wandcrafter) and is pleasantly original enough.

Yes, there are enough hints of Harry eventually getting an uber unique wand - made out of Bloodwood - but the process of making the wand and the fact that Harry makes it himself from scratch makes it far superior to fics which have Harry simply flaring his magic and knowing which wood and core to choose before the wand gets made for him into ten minutes.

The author's take on magic, with the ley lines and all, is interesting enough even if I don't agree with it.

So yeah, there are still some plus points for this fic amongst all the fail, and I'd probably check in on it every now and then for updates. Not worthy of the Library, but more suitable for say, the "Almost Recommended Fanfiction" thread.

    2.5/5 rounded up to a 3.

I kinda liked it. There wasn't all woe-is-me woe-is-me Harry majorly buffing the story but there were characteristics of the angst pulling through. None of his friends are particularly 'evil' or 'bashworthy', though Dumbledore has sorta lost the way.

And Hedwig, dear Hedwig. Gotta love that old girl!

This has some potential (the wand stuff is nice, and I don't mind ezekiel too much), but things like the tai-chi annoy me. I think that once the story picks up it will get better; as it is, I think it should be in the Recycling Bin. 3/5 for potential.
