After the disaster-that-was-OotP, I wasn't really planning on reading any more of the HP books, because I didn't like the way the plot was headed. However, when the latest book came out and being the optimist that I am, I figured that maybe Rowling had gotten her act together again and created another masterpiece. Boy, was I wrong. The book was not as bad or as annoying as OotP, but even at the most "exciting" part. it was utterly mediocre.

I'm glad that I got a LARGE discount on the book; because, for what I got, I never would have paid any more. Nothing about the book grabbed my attention (except for a few things that moved it into the definitely-don't-buy catagory). None of the revelations in it were particularly surprising; I had already guessed most of them through reading the previous books and analyzing them a bit. There were 3 main things that I didn't like about HBP and found very irritating: Harry's preoccupation with a certain character's actions, the out-of-character-ness of most of the people, and the romantic stuff. I'm definitely not the kind of shipper that would like this book.

A quick question for any readers of my post: Have any of you noticed that when an extremely good author (not just Rowling) writes more than four books in a particular series, s/he seems to lose steam? That the books are, at best, mediocre?

It seems so, sad really, I had high hopes for HBP. Introduce yourself! It's fun!

Ye, its sad. I think after book four as you say the author starts to write for the wrong reason. It’s more for money than the love to write.

After book 4 the whole HP series lost its touch.... I can honestly say that I thought book 5 and 6 were crappy... I really hate how JKR made people in nature seem like a bunch of softies that would not do anything when they are picked on... There is Voldemort terrorizing people and all the order members and aurors do is use 'light curses' to retaliate.... If there was a threat to a nation then that said nation would do anything it can to eliminate the threat even if it includes mass murder and torture. It is like the people will not fight for their rights and freedoms… That is the point that annoys me the most about the Harry Potter series...

Wizards, as a rule, are stuid, easily swayed, and set in outdated ways. They are terrified to such an extent that they fear their oppressor's name.

Aye, which is one of the reasons I enjoyed reading Dragonlance so much. Weis and Hickman have written like what 15 books++ or something together and solo, and each one makes the world a better place when you're done reading it.

Instead of slowly turning it to shit like JKR seems to be doing.

Yeah Dragonlance didn't lose steam, but HP certainly did.

I have a theory about book 5 and 6. What if it wasn’t JKR who wrote book 1-4? She stole them from someone else. And here is the reason why book 5 and 6 sucks. She disposed of the author to book 1-4 before he/she could write the rest of the series, so she had to write book 5 and 6 herself. And we know the result of those books.

I've said before I feel she ripped off fanfics for ideas, hell I know _I_ would if I could make millions and the person I ripped off didn't have a legal foot to stand on. Maybe for the past 2 she DIDN't use fanfics or something, lol

    Her ghostwriter quit!

when i read HBP i forgot i was reading the actual book. I though it was just some bad cliched fanfiction. especially with the pairings.

I got about halfway in and threw my book at the wall. I wanted to cry because the book was such a steaming pile of shit. I kept thinking that it was some shitty fanfiction, but alas it was the real thing.
I read the H/G paring and had to go read some Harry/Bella fanfiction to get the poison out of my system.
When I finally got to the dumbles fucktoy through and through, I almost vomited it was so bad.
I'm glad I read the book at Barnes & Noble and didn't waste money on this pile of shit.

Well lucky you. I bought it before I had a chance to read it because I thought it might have been good. So I went back to the house and sat in the living room reading it. After I was done, I set it down and haven't looked at it since. I think my brother's reading it now, but I'm not sure. My dad actually liked it too. I don't know why though...
