Watched it yesterday. It was good. The first half was really enjoyable, the second half was just so-so. Didn't ruin the movie for me, just not as good as the first half.

It was at least worth the money I paid to see it. But not the best movie by Will Smith or the best movie of the year.

Yeah. I didn't walk in to see a comedy, and while it was funny, the script was well written. It wasn't just about action etc, Vincent Ngo is an awesome writer, and he did an excellent job here; showing a more human 'hero' at the start, but then highlighting what it really means to be a hero at the end. Self sacrifice and all that jazz. But then also the very human need of acceptance and companionship.

The start was funny, exciting and entertaining. The end was a much more powerful message which I really didn't expect. Will Smith, though he has faults, is one of my favourite actors. And he did a good job here.

I saw this one. I think it helps having heard all the comments, complaints, and reviews beforehand. Because if you go into the movie with a decent idea of what to expect, it's pretty damn enjoyable. A couple of cringe-like story directions, but you don't go to a Will Smith summer blockbuster because you want to pick apart plot holes.

To me, it smells like someone had a good unfinished idea and it took another dozen writers to finish it in a bland average way.

There is no real bad guy or villain of note. Really, the least likable character is Charlize Theron's, but I reckon we're supposed to try and be understanding and sympathize with her. The only conflict resolution was basically Hancock finding out and accepting his origins.

The trailers had so much fun destruction, and humorous one-liners that it looked to be popcorn filler. But the writers tried to inject some drama, anguish, and just uninteresting fantasy.

A superhero who makes mistakes, blows things up, drinks a lot, and doesn't care if you like him or not... that's an idea with a ton of potential. Instead they decided it needed some drama and to show the ugly side of super powers.

But knowing that ahead of time, the drama's not too bad, and the destruction is fun. I wanted an amusing anti-hero but instead I got a story about humanity and purpose. Not the usual summer popcorn fluff, but still an entertaining hour and a half for sure.

From what I understand it wasnt that the story was half finished or half thought through. Its that they went back and edited out alot of it and change it from what was a really great story throughout.

    I saw this last Saturday...

Bottom line? BEST PILOT EVER! I'm really looking forward to watching this again when they finally start showing it on TV. I just wonder which network was optioning it...

I expect it'll be a bit more like the second half of the premiere than the first half, (although as we all saw in BTVS\Angel, backsliding has its moments, so we'll see.) Still there's a lot of potential here for Highlander type story lines, what with them both having lived for thousands and thousands of years--surely they've got to have made more than a few enemies in that time. I expect we'll be seeing all kinds of flashbacks to earlier times and then fast-forwarding to the present day.

Not bad for Will Smith's return to television I'd say...

Wait...this was supposed to be a major motion picture???? FAIL!

Just saw this and really loved it, the wife bit completely blindsided me and they gave away just enough of Hancock's past to make me want to know more. It was more fun at the beginning but I liked the ending too.

Still I agree this would have made an amazing highlander-like series, but I've no real complaints.

I liked the premise of the movie (an imperfect superhero who isn't always hero-like) and really enjoyed the first half when he didn't care what others thought.

Though that is about all I liked in the movie, it seemed as if halfway through it the director suddenly realized the movie needed a plot and came up with a half-assed farfetched storyline that did not make sense and wasn't explained at all. I enjoy action/comedies as much as the next guy but some plot would be nice.

    A nice brainless summer blockbuster.

That's because the first half of the story was written twelve years ago and the new writers/director decided that the wife plot would be a good idea.

I liked it. Certainly nothing spectacular, but definitely fun to watch. Best line in the movie:
    -"Your breath smells like alcohol."
-"That's cause I been drinking, bitch!"
I laughed out loud when I heard that.

Could this be a bases of a harry fic?

You could have a powerful Harry who, after defeating Voldermort is cast out into the muggle world and goes hobo for whatever reason, he is seen using magic (wandless?) to help people and is labeled a superhero. The public attitude towards him could be the same as in the beginning of Hancock.
Chuck in a few antagonists, and the ministry trying to chuck him in Azcaban you could have a foundation to a original Harry, or a parody.

Ehh... I don't know. I would like it better as a post-wizard apocalypse fic with only Harry surviving, although it would probably be identical to the movie then.

    That would work too,
I just like the idea of Harry having a Hancock like attitude. If you wanted to go identical then I vote Luna being the crazy blond chick.

Harry as Hancock would be funny, but no way would Luna play his opposite. Charlize Theron's character, with her preachy attitude about Hancock and her secretive side, was closer to (dare I say it) Hermione. And dirty blonde, bug-eyed Luna will never grow up to be a Charlize Theron, regardless of how cool her character is. But, if you want a hot blonde who can show a bit of a temper, I suggest a certain veela we all know and fap to - I mean love. Love to fap to.

I don't get why anyone would want to translate this to the HP-verse, though - at least not the relationship aspect. Hancock's relationship with his wife was a certified soul bond...

So, what's the verdict? Is it actually worth spending the money to go see it in theaters, or should I wait for the DVD?

Wall-E sucked. Hard. Giant propaganda movie for the green oriented folks. Nearly no dialog, only a few funny moments, was bored out of my mind.

The Wall-E GAME though, for 360, is epic. Perfect platformer, great multiplayer, great graphics.

The game was better than the movie...
Did I read that right? Because if I did, it's rather strange.

Yeah, I did a double take when I saw that.

I can't recall a single other game that was better than the movie it was based on.
