I read a pretty average SG1 Xover a while back, but it had one fairly interesting idea. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4404139/2/Magic_and_Stars

Basically, Harry deliberately shot red sparks out of his wand during the 3rd task, disqualifying him in the process. Nothing much came of it during that story, but it still caught my interest.

I'm looking for stories that contain a Harry who realises the futility of competing, and therefore decides to safe his own skin. Can take place at any point during GoF.

I've already read a story called Unchampion or something similar, Harry didn't gain any points at all during that one.

    Thanks in advance!

kb0's Harry Potter: Unchampion is one of the ones you're thinking of.

Also, Bobmin's Power of the Press has Harry snapping his wand and giving up his magic when his name comes out of the goblet.

The first linked story was boring as hell. Plus it was H/G, but at least the relationship wasn't like the 6th book. Other than that, it was a fairly boring one-shot.

The second story I didn't really read, besides the first chapter.

Harry Potter: Unchampion is far from perfection incarnate, but it gets bonus points in my book for being one of a kind.

Bobmin's fic kinda died out after a while, but that's just my opinion. I probably feel this way because of my preference for plot-centred fiction.

TheJackOfDiamonds wrote one of the funniest version of the 1st task I've ever seen, here. That story doesn't quite fit my criteria though, and it's definitely abandoned.

I tried reading Unchampion because the idea is a good one, the story just made me cringe though.

"Professor, I respect you because you answered every question correctly. You obviously care for your students. You are a teacher. However, every single question I asked you, Mr. Snape did the exact opposite today. I can not respect a person as a teacher like that anymore. He is not a good role model and he does not know how to teach."
Snape jumped forward and pulled out his wand as he said, "Why you little..."
    "Petrificus Totalus!"
As Snape fell, Harry moved his knee so it would not get hit and watched his ex-Potions teacher fall face first to the floor, stiff and unable to catch himself. He looked over and saw his head of house with her wand in her hand. With a smile, Harry said, "Thank you, Professor. I appreciate you saving me from his true character." Harry heard a sigh from the other side of the desk and saw the Headmaster pull his glasses off of his face and rub his eyes for a moment before putting them back on.
Yeah, Snape may have a blind spot for Harry, and Padfoot and Moony... but that is just retarded.

I just I didn't suck at writing so I could give the idea a go myself.

Well Snape always did have anger issues, and was angered just as easily as Harry or Voldemort. The 3 of them had that in common, of being easily pissed and didn't really tolerate very much in certain subjects. I can see Snape actually trying to attack Harry.
