Whew I've read this thread (all 27 pages) in its entirety. Im ashamed to admit now I've never read a Harry/Fleur fic before now, but I checked out Dagger and Rose and left a review (Its kickass. Reminds of Denarian Renegade). Runescriving = win in my book.

Anyway I'm just about to start on the wastelands fic, but from what I've read it should be good!

EDIT: Make that 28 pages of this thread.

Um . . . according to Wikipedia, Hindi and English are the two official languages of India. There are apprently a lot of "Scheduled Languages":

    Assamese
    Bengali
    Bodo
    Dogri
    Gujarati
    Hindi
    Kannada
    Kashmiri
    Konkani
    Maithili
    Malayalam
    Manipuri
    Marathi
    Nepali
    Oriya
    Punjabi
    Sanskrit
    Santali
    Sindhi
    Tamil
    Telugu
    Urdu

Scheudled languages are the official languages of the individual states, whereas English and Hindi are the official languages on the federal level.

While I quibble with comparisons to Shezza's brilliance, I thank you for your kind words.

Wastelands is simply a great fic, on my short-list of "most favoritest".

The man speaks wisdom. This is after all a Harry/Fleur thread, not "The official languages of the Indian Subcontinent with added blasphemy of Harry/Padma and debate over the appeal of Indian women as a whole" thread...

As for Twisted, I am glad to see that the corruption is spreading.

EDIT: I meant Jenkins, but it seems perspicacity has slithered his way into posting while I was typing. Sneaky, sneaky... Although considering he is the most prolific Harry/Fleur author out there I should hang my head in shame and stop typing.

Nah...The more Heur fic's the better. There are so far only 3 I enjoy and your fic is one of them.

Methene, when are you gonna get back to writing OBaM? The sooner Book 1 and 2 get finished the closer we get to excellent Heur.

Well i am an Indian and i wont say that Indian chicks are hot or ugly. I believe its same as every country. You have some girls who are hot and some girls who are well UGLY.

Also English is an official language of India used along with Hindi according to our constitution and the assumption is correct that it is due to colonization of India by British.

Also to say that some place has hot girls or ugly girls based on few people we meet will make us a hypocrite.

And basically the language above other than Hindi and English are our national languages which we have 23.

After this long rant i would say i prefer Asian(not south Asian) chicks.

    Can't fault this man's tastes. (I married a Chinese).

I'm going to "ditto that" calls for Methene to update. Can't let a promising, engaging H/F story like his lie fallow....

Book III will be H/F, and Book I is proving to be a great story imo.

I can't agree with you more on that. If he's gonna take someone else's story, he could at least put some effort into making it hmm what's the word?.....

Lol, this thread made me laugh. I started on the first page, and I'm like 'ouch', then I went to the last few pages and people are praising my story (knowledge is power) . . . it was an interesting experience to say the least.

Seeing as this is a H/F community, I guess I can throw you a bone. I'm trying really hard to get the next chapter up, but this one scene in the beginning of the chapter is totally fucking with me. It's a scene with Harry, with Vector supervising him, working on his own original spell. Not only is using fake-but-real-sounding mathematics annoying, but thinking of actual lines Vector can say to help Harry is even worse, especially when they don't make mathematical sense ("Harry, you need to use this certain prime number here because . . .").

I'm also trying to make every one of my chapter from now on to be 20k words, like the last few have been, so plot progression becomes complicated with that (you find out a problem in one chapter, and it gets resolved in the same one because they're only ten thousand words apart).

Oh, and jbern needs to get his book out so he can update the Harry/Luna fic and then Lie :D

Hi MrJoe. Not sure if we've met, but I believe we've read each others' work.

I agree with your assessment of writing arithmancy--having a bit of a background in mathematics and physics myself, I can say with surety that about the only thing that bugs me as much as half-baked physics explanations for stuff (Hermione's unavoidable, "Ooh, ohh, Aparation is really just quantum tunneling, right?") is half-baked mathematical claptrap, where authors just toss stuff together at random.

Not having read your scene, I probably can't comment cogently, but I propose it might be best to just speak obliquely about the subject with few concrete details, but speak more directly about the process itself. In most mathematics, one needs to lay a backdrop of a bunch of proved theorems and lemmas about easier, though related problems before moving on to tackle the harder theorem one really wants to prove. Typically, finding the path to crack the harder problem--which requires a spark of mathematical insight--is the hardest thing. Insight and epiphany don't always happen on a fixed timeline; rather, you have to prepare your mind for it and continually hold the problem in your head, waiting for the creative process to finally break it open.

I could imagine that the process of crafting a spell with arithmancy could have similar aspects to it. Harry could be struggling with crafting the bridge between the analog of "theorems" (little spell nuggets he's already developed) and the desired spell outcome.

I've read in another thread that Jim's working on the next chapter of Turn Me Loose first before starting in on The Lie I've Lived. His process, I've noticed, makes him pretty efficient at getting chapters out when he focuses on them.

For those keeping score, I'm posting the final chapter of the revised D&R this evening.
