Because he's into femdom? LOL I'm kidding, knuckz :p

I can think of multiple reasons - obsessions usually make for a good story... bewitchment... etc. I wouldn't be adverse to a story like that, even if it made me uncomfortable...

I personally think deprived is worth a read, though not much else. Its reads well, despite all the bashing and cliches.

The destruction of a protagonist makes for a pretty interesting read. And I don't mean destruction in the good-to-evil / morality sense, but as breaking of will, etc...

Kind of like when someone falls in love with a sociopath. They can't love, they'll just use that person until they have no more use of them, leaving them a broken person. There was an episode of House that covered it, I think.

Can't say I know of one exactly like that, though if I recall correctly Sesc's The French Affair involved a more manipulative and ambitious Fleur who wasn't above using her allure for her own gains. I don't think it's been updated in a while though.

Other than that, Harry/Fleur does appear to be in its usual sorry state over on ffnet. I will continue to hold on to my ridiculous, irrational hope that one day, out of the blue, the end-all-be-all definitive Harry/Fleur story will appear. And it will be glorious.

Edit - Thought I might add that while Joe's Wastelands is indeed Harry/Fleur, I think we can all agree that their relationship is by no means the leading factor on the story. If anything, the dominating female in the story thus far has been Tessa, imo.

I'd try that story too, but I haven't seen anything like it yet. You'll have a hard time even finding a Fleur like that, knuckz, completely leaving aside the Harry-angle. OTTOMH, I can only think of two that might fit the bill -- mine, and the one I had the idea from (More Than A Pretty Face). Most times, it's a variant of Woe-Is-Me-I'm-Beautiful!Fleur, and that's just sad.

If anyone remembers a Fleur that likes being a Veela, I'm open for suggestions too. Maybe I forgot a story and can read it again :3

Edit: Also, Lightfighter, I updated it in the WbA in October. That's basically yesterday :p

Only one I can think of is this. Be warned, it's not that great.

Concept is fine. Execution not as much.

I just want a decent, normal and not over-the-top, year 4 HP/FD story. Nothing crazy, no stupid abilities, no retarded preemptive meetings, and just a normal relationship. I guess that's too much to ask for though.

Dude, she's a veela. Would a Veela fall for just Harry?

She needs someone cool, with a dragon earring. See, all of those authors who have women fall for Harry because he's charming are doin' it wrong, at least in Fleur's case.

I'm thinking of Wastelands - Harry had to show Fleur how to make Starlight in a bottle. :\

There's just such a disconnect between the Harry that exists in canon and the Harry that can manage Fleur Delacour.

This... sounds somewhat depressing to read, from my point of view. Where would the conflict be? Would it be romantic? Would she slowly fall in love with her little puppet? Tragic? Would he break through the mental control, and seek vengeance? Horrific? Would she play him like a fiddle, and slit his throat in the end? Would it be something completely different?

Definitely has potential, though. I just doubt I would be able to enjoy that type of "hopeless" story. Same reason I can never enjoy books like Anna Karenina, I know that the characters I come to sympathize with are doomed...

I must be some kind of sap...

Rescuing her sister in the second task is the changing point for their dynamic, so it could be possible after that. He's got to prove himself, and it's not that hard to think of something creative. First he has to recognize that he wants to date her, and second is that he has to get her to not think of him as 'leetle boy' anymore. The third part is overcoming those obstacles, which in itself could be harder than the actual tasks, and could make for a good story. And it has to be done without giving Harry James's personality and memories and without a dumb gimmick like writing some letters. Reading a post-Hogwarts Harry/Fleur just doesn't appeal to me, as that's too simple.

Yeah... I suppose that can work. But you're going to have a hell of a time making it work, not boring, etc etc. :\

Blaise started one a year ago, I think. Then he stopped. Then he Blaised.

Only thing I can think of is some kind of self-discovery angstfest. Something like Draco telling Harry that he's worthless and that no one would be willing to go to the Christmas Ball with him, which sets Harry on the path of proving him wrong by trying to woo the prettiest girl in the school, i.e. Fleur.

But then it's all "Woe is me, what to do about my useless self, time to find my balls, I've got to date Fleur, I'll save Gabriel and she'll love me and it's all according to plan, yuk yuk yuk" and I'd be dialing for the waaaaaaambulance by the second paragraph.

The problem with Fleur is that she's too attractive and too unobtainable, and the only way to make it work is to make Harry the second coming of Bill Weasley. The ingrained thought process that Harry is a dork and Fleur is a Veela beauty queen, and they could never get together outside of Harry overcoming dorkdom is what's stopping more authors from writing a decent, normal (read: Harry is not a groundhogday god in human form) story.

    So:
    - Recognize he wants to date her: if he can date the prettiest girl in school, then maybe he does have some worth (or something terribly contrived and self-depreciating like it)
    - Get over the Leetle Boy Issue: fight off swarms of merfolk and a tentacle monster (squid) to save Gabriel

Now, up to there, you have the makings of a connection of some kind between Harry and Fleur. But here's where it all goes terribly, horribly wrong.

    - I don't know how a relationship actually starts/works, so I'll take the easy way out:

    SOUL BONDS

And so, another story gets sent to the special hell for soul-bond, gag-inducing harem fics. And we, the community, suffer for it.

God damn it, can someone please write a respectable Harry/Fleur story that doesn't involve sleeping gods, soul bonds, harems, adultery, slavery or trisomy 21?

Edit: the fuck is with this formating?

Ahh, this thread. I remember the great day when Andro told us all to put up or shut up, and I wrote about 50k words of a story with some Harry/Fleur goodness in it... Then abandoned it, pottered around for a bit, wrote 250k words of zombies instead, and, right now, a year later, am seriously considering picking up the H/F one, because it's lulzy good fun. If only because of Andro and the good of this pairing's horrible output for actually good stories. Ho hum, give it time and I may have something.

You mean to tell me you have 50k of -knowing you- quality H/F and you've been sitting on it this entire time?

Cheated does not even begin to describe how I feel right now.

Lol, well, I always finish what I start before posting. If I had posted these words when I was writing, and if I abandoned the story like I had, it would've made my story into another Blaise situation, and that's just not cool. Also, I'll distract y'all with zombies as I hypothetically write this one up. Sound cool?
