When did they become friends? Like, in first year because they were both ostracized or later on?
I remember reading a bunch of fics that kinda fit the premise, but I don't remember that quote exactly.

Basically Harry gets sent back from Deathly Hallows. I think it was like 1st or 2nd year. Also if I remember right Hermione ends up going to Muggle College at some point as well. I hope that helps.

What are the best Harry/Hermione stories? I've avoided romance centric stories for a long time.

I hated Blindness. And I remember liking that one WBWL story that's H/Hr where Harry has a basilisk tattoo and fights Voldemort very dramatically. I forget the name, but it wasn't great, but I remember liking it four years ago. I know ScottPress also mentioned it once or twice. That's about the extent of my familiarity with that part of the fandom. I've also considered Vox Corporis but never pulled the trigger.

Basilisk tattoo? I don't recall recommending a shipping story with that detail.

It's Unsung Hero, I remember it now, but I think the basilisk tattoo might be in another story. A cheesy mentor!Snape story called A New Place to Call Home or something like that.

The ending to Unsung Hero might genuinely be the worst ending to any story ever written. It's worse than Game of Thrones

It's solidly number two for me, only bested by the ending of BarbLP's Psychic Serpent series, which was otherwise excellent for its time (Started in 2001!) so it was even more jarring. Absolute shambles.

@Villanelle I enjoyed Vox Corporis when I read it...maybe 10 years ago? How well it's stood up these days I couldn't say.
