I find the distinction interesting (I wasn't sure what the difference was off the top of my head), but they still fall largly under protected speech in most cases.

Some celebs do let it go, others try to fight though, and they almost never win. Particularly in Britain. Were you just pointing out some celebs indifference, or disagreeing?

 

I was pointing out that most of them don't bother at all to sue, or when they do, it's just to get even more publicity.

"OH NO!!! Don't publish my "stolen" sex video, that someone magically got out of my house or I'll sue!" sort of thing about celebs was my point I guess

 

I didn't even think of 'stolen' sex tapes... I agree, those types of things are probably usually orchestrated, or at least don't hurt the celeb. I was thinking more of Witherspoon's recent problems, and in the past Julia Roberts, Madonna, etc. Especially when it involves the celebs kids. I don't think much of celebs, but I doubt they have their children being photographed from trees 80 meters away and claim that the paparazzi nearly ran them off the road (as examples) just to further their career. In these cases they were pretty clearly violations of basic human rights/privacy in some way, but the paparazzi were let off. It's worse in Britain by far, there's a reason that Skeeter came around after Rowling hit it big, she had problems of her own with the media. They can be vicious, and in any country with a free press, it's hard to fight.

 

I agree with you, but in my own opinion, if they choose that life, it's their own damned fault.

Let them grab one of thier millions of dollars and use it to mop up the river I'm crying for them.

 

lol, I don't feel bad for then much, but the kids certainly didn't choose it, and Harry (if we stay in context of what spurred the discussion) didn't really ask for it, literally or through action. To the press, you become fair game if you are a public figurre at all, no matter how you became one. Movie/music stars do bring it on themselves usually though.

 

Aye, the thing that pissed me off about Harry in GoF is how he just takes everything. He doesn't really try to get it to stop, although I doubt it would be possible to do so.

If anything Dumbledore made his abscence from the world turn the media into raving rabid dogs on anything concering Harry once he finally returned to the world
