I've said before that if you want a well-done Luna, try Antosha over at KIA Repository. He's mostly written Harry/Ginny/Luna when Luna is involved, but he has a straight-up Harry/Luna smut-fic that involves just fuck-buddy status, and a Ron/Luna fic that is surprisingly poignant, so don't let any Ron-hate keep you from it. The H/G/L smut is pretty good as well. Weirdly, that's the second time today I've linked his page.

As for Luna-centric fics, there aren't a lot that faithfully portray Luna without going to what Pers aptly dubbed "Luna-flake" territory. One writer who has done several decent Luna fics is michelle-31a, though most of hers involve femmeslash. [note: that is generally a plus for me, but YMMV] Her story Knock Knock is an amusing Luna and Harry story, though not shippy.

And I appreciate my fic being mentioned here. I had a lot of fun writing it, but it was generally either loved or hated, or rather, really liked or disliked, to be fair.

I know Pers liked and recced Harry and the Hobgoblins, but the story required to much suspension of disbelief on my part. Pers was correct in saying that Harry was "too credulous," or something similar.

Lovegood, Boobs Gooder is great, as is Contemplating Clouds. I couldn't get into Luna's Year, and Thoughts of Pudding was just awful.

I'll give Unequivocally Unusual and Pathetic a look. Always glad to see Luna stories.

 

I am now going to recommend a story that is not for everyone but takes a rather interesting look at a Harry/Luna relationship.

The story is basically BDSM-porn. There, you are warned. However, it does have a lot of interesting characterization and I liked the story for it's new take on things.

Luna is the submissive in the story and she feels very natural in that role, it does not feel forced upon her for the sake of the authors fantasies.

There are a lot of terrible things with the story as well. Some plot devices are straight up bad and the story loses "it" about halfway through only to regain it and then lose if again.
The writing is decent, no more.

Basically, it's better then most of the stories at adultfanfiction.net but still suffers from the usual problems. If you are interested in Luna-psychology it's a good read though.

Fair warning that Pathetic desperately needs a good editor. There are a number of recurring style errors, frustrating typos, and one or two truly :facepalm moments. At some point, the author even uses "intuited" as a quote tag.

The atmosphere is spectacular, though. Surreal and grand and grim in a way that hints and pokes at something large and chilling. And it contains my Harry/Voldemort showdown ever, although I doubt anyone else will find it as moving.

 

Right in one. Also, I had no idea that they were all deleted. No great loss, though, since they really weren't anything amazing. That particular story could have had any supporting female character swapped into Luna's place and it probably would have been better, and less irritating to Luna fans.

Similarly, Self Made Man is yet another BDSM-Luna that, also similarly, could have had any supporting female character swapped into Luna's place and played out nearly exactly the same way.

I have to say I love Luna as a character, but I think she is more suited for a very close friendship than romance. I personally love Luna. We need more Luna fics... Heck we need more fics where Luna features prominently just as a really close friend. Who says your starring female characters have to be in a romance with the protagonist anyway? Maybe a Harry/F!Char + H/L friendship.

I personally never saw Luna as a romantic possibility for Harry, or anyone really. I don't really like her in general. I suppose her character is one of those 'hit-or-miss' ones. In my case, she missed.

On topic... most of the good Harry/Luna stories are fluffy one-shots, or crack fics. Contemplating Clouds, is of course, the best to be found anywhere. The downside, if it can be called that, is that it basically renders almost every other multi-chapter non-cracky Harry/Luna story unreadable.
