Sometime ago I read this story, by DobbyElfLord, "Altered Destinies", in which Harry adopts an infant Riddle. Really nice, even though the sequel sucked.

Also another one where Harry gets transported in time and ends up in the same orphanage as Riddle, and becomes pretty much his brother. Even going as far as taking his last name. Can't remember the name or the author but one thing that stood out was that Grindelwald was the one to transport Harry back in time. Later on, he also had Harry's soul trapped somewhere(a pendant I think) to implant it on Lucius' second son. Wasnt that great. Eventually I dropped it.

Anyways. Im looking good or at least readable stories that fit the criteria on the thread tittle. Any recs? I'm particularly found of timetravel fics, by the way.

Is AO3 open for everybody now?? Last time I checked, it was not open for everybody(Though, I got an invitation).

It shows a lot of promise, though.

Alright, I don't remember the name or author of this one, but hopefully someone will.

A post-war Harry goes back in time and ends up adopting Tom Riddle during the summer, who (I think) is already a few years into Hogwarts. Tom is very suspicious about why Harry adopts him and who he is.

Harry's got a busted knee still healing from the war, and he doesn't treat it well at all and the injury gets a lot worse.

At some point, Tom does something over the line, and Harry uses magic to take all of his various "trophies" he takes from people he bullies and puts them somewhere visible but makes it so Tom cannot access them unless he does something (don't remember what) to atone for being such an asshole.

    Ring a bell for anyone?

I came across this one before. Don't really remember why I did not read it. I will take a look again, thanks for the rec.

I can deal with slash, but just going reading between the lines "1999" and "1935" sets off a lot of red flags for me.

Is this fic actually good? Right now, I normally wouldn't continue reading. But if you say this is a good fic, I'll keep going for like 10k words.

I've given up on a number of fics before due to their beginnings only to find they're actually alright once you get past the start.

Never Alone, Unfortunately is one I read very recently, and probably the only one with that premise I've really enjoyed.

There's a few things that I think make it unique from the others.

Probably the biggest thing is despite the premise of the fic being that Harry has gone back in time and adopted Tom Riddle, that is almost more of a background theme that runs through it. Harry is an auror, and there is a seperate plot about a case he's on, with the Tom/Harry interactions slotted within that.

Secondly, while Harry goes back and adopts Tom, he also finds overwhelming paranoia towards him (Harry is always incorrectly worrying about Tom secretly manipulating him and other people). Quite a change from the usual fairytale of Harry being the perfect father figure and all that.

Oh, and Voldemort's spirit got stuck in Harry's head via Horcrux before Harry went back.

It's not library material, but I would recommend giving it a look anyway.

Just finished this one (and the prequel). It was enjoyable. Not fantastic, but it's worth a read if you've got nothing better to do. It's Almost Reccomendable material.

I liked the author's approach to how Harry and Tom could ever become friends in this one story:

    1. Mirror Image » reviews His whole life, Tom Foster has had reoccuring dreams about a boy nearly identical to him, Tom Riddle. But when he discovers that they are really memories, he must make a difficult choice - to remain a reflection or to find his own destiny. AU. NO SLASH.Harry Potter - Rated: T - English - Adventure/Friendship - Chapters: 21 - Words: 68,486 - Reviews: 351 - Updated: 5-9-11 - Published: 6-24-08 - Harry P. & Tom R. Jr.

Unfortunately, it is not without its flaws; and even worse, it appears to be discontinued.

The friendship between the two is the only redeemable part. I personally managed to trudge through all the less likable bits just for that, and the quality does rise a little in the later chapters (comparatively, at least).
