Title: HARRY POTTER AND ICE CREAM DELIGHTS
    Author: Luckner
    Rating: Genre: Romance
    DLP Category: Romance
    Pairing: HarryPotter/Luna Lovegood
    Status: ongoing
Summery:Harry Potter knew better than anyone that a person’s life could be changed forever in a single day, but until he spent a summer day with Luna Lovegood he didn’t realize that his life could be made forever better. This story is an alternative summer following Harry’s fifth year. Spoilers for HBP and DH. Story intended for romantics, be warned.

As it seems the only thing a storry needs nowadays to be allowed on DLP is good writing; so here is a verry well written storry,Harry/Luna centric is allways good and don't puke at the title.

    ...

    Are you fucking retarded?

Righteouslyangry!parent grates on the nerves like nothing else.

Dumbledore: Oh deary me, the nutcase is going to condemn me using a newspaper no one takes seriously that is read only by his daughter, and upside-down at that. I better fold like a big fat pussy and reverse the decision I stood by for, hm, about fifteen years. That sounds like exactly something I would do.

You're mistaken on the good writing front also, but the writing isn't good here either.

Luna is also apparently a friend of animals, and is prosecuted by people specificallyy so that Harry can come to her defense.

The author goes extremely far in Daily Prophet/Rita Skeeter bashing. A slander attempt backfires spectacularly, and apparently it's all part of a massive conspiracy linked to Voldemort.

1/5 since at least she isn't a seer.

Uh, yeah... I suppose you could be excused in thinking this is a good story, as English is not your first language.

Eventually you'll figure it out. ;)

My, someone is bitter about having his post deleted.

Quality isn't a synonym for good writing. It includes good writing, good plot, good characterisation (in various degrees according to the genre of the story, smutty one-shots might not have that much of a plot) and so on. And don't worry, I don't get tired of stating the obvious.

By the way, format of the thread title is all wrong.

You call this quality? I don't even want to know what you consider bad fanfiction.

To give a fair and balanced review, we must first be able to read the whole fanfic, rather than having to read one chapter a week

I thank you, Mad Hat. You have taught me that I should never read For Review fanfics in the morning, as they ruin the rest of my day.

    Bandwagoning not intended.

I was looking through the list of new posts and saw this title appear and thought to myself, "Oh Christ, it's gonna be carnage!"

I knew this, because I've read the story - I even have it favourited because I LIKE it (hell, I'm writing something along the same lines, so yeah, it appeals to me).

Still, I couldn't see any way in hades that it would appeal to the DLP membership - fluffy romance fics just aren't going to survive here without being something extra special, and this isn't story isn't another Jeconais.

What it is though, is a fairly decent Harry/Luna fic when there is a real shortage of them around. Most of them star the "Poo!Luna" that Rors created, or 'Mask!Luna' similar to JBerns. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading stories with those characters, but they aren't Luna as I think she was meant to be.

So anyway, I like what Luckner's done with the character, and if I have to put up with a little OOC Xeno or Dumbles now and again, I'm happy enough to do it.

What I don't get is why anyone would put the story up here for review - did you even read the warning? "Story intended for Romantics!" Do you think DLP is full of romantics?

So far I'm going to say 3/5 after reading 8 chapters. I sure don't regret the time I spend reading it, but I don't want to pick it up and read it all over again when I've finished. It doesn't drag me in enough that I have to pick it up every time a new chapter comes out, but it's on my list when I can get a few to make it worthwhile.

The problem is although it is my favorite pairing I do not like reading stories with "Mary-Sue!Luna" either. Unfortunately the author tends to characterize her as an almost perfect person. This fic is better than his/her earlier stories, but only a bit.
I agree, that there is very few decent chaptered fic with Harry/Luna. I think it can be partly explained with Luna`s character. If you write a non-comedy fic, you must use a more or less OOC!Luna, because the cannon!Luna is too eccentric (crazy). It is true for your story as well. But I do not care with it. For me the important things are the following: 1. Luna must not be too OOC 2. The author should give a good explanation for Luna`s behaviour.

I have to disagree with the comment about canon!Luna having to be crazy. There are so many scenes in books 5-7 where she is just as sane as I am. The problem is that so many fanfics have turned her into a complete nut job that everyone expects her to act like it.

People see what they focus on. How crazy was she during the scenes in DH where the battle is going on? Same thing as with the Ministry. When it's time to fight, you don't her her carrying on about Nargles. Her perceptiveness was also in full force when she helped Harry 'escape' by creating a distraction for him by pointing to a 'supposed' blibbering humdinger, and she didn't wear her Dirigible Plum earrings when she dressed up as Harry's date for Sluggy's party.

She's definitely eccentric, but I think JKR leaves it up to the reader to work it out for themselves what might be behind that, and how odd she is. I just don't think it's fair to say that Canon!Luna must be odd all the time.

I can see how Luckner's character is a bit of a Luna-Sue - so far... I guess the big question would have to be - is she going to stay that way? Canon Luna is quite pitiable with her general lack of friends and her odd behaviour, but other than that, I'd say canon Luna is a bit of a Mary-Sue.

    Cheers,

    Brian

I thought the plot was somewhat decent, aside from the problem of Dumbledore caving in this easily, and the thought behind the Daily Prophet bashing was commendable. But Abused!Harry always gets on my nerves, and there are weaknesses in the characterisation.

It's better polished than most of the stuff out there, but it also contains quite a lot of the stuff I'm quite happy to see flamed to death.

This fic is, in many ways, like a city, or a landscape utterly free from human influence. You can look at it from a plain (like I did at first), highly impressed. But when you have landed, you see the problems up close.

I'm gonna be generous, and give this an extra point for semblance of originality.

    3/5

Meh, not my cup of tea at all. It's readable and I can stick through it with minimal skimming so I'll give it a 2.5.
