Holy Shit.

Just read this story from beginning to end in one sitting. It rocks. I had seen it in a lot of favourite lists, but I'd seen twin and immediately said fuck that, but I can definitely say that this is the best twin fic ever. Period. The premise was kind of sketchy, Harry basically defying every teaching he had in life to migrate to Durmstrang, but the school is pulled off well enough that it works brilliantly. Working in the more adult themes and content while still maintaining a clear story progression was my personal favourite aspect.

Anyway, 4.5/5, the half taken away because its not complete and I want more, as well as a few minor inconsistencies.

 

@rinsimyaldee: I did the exact same thing when I saw twin, and then I had the exact same reaction when I finally read it on the positive recommendation of an IRL friend.

 

You know, fics like that get me thinking. They are cliche yes, but the whole cliche plot-points became cliche and were overused for a reason. So, naturally, when awesome writers like The Santi tackle them you fully realize what it was that drove people to beat those plots to death, only to fail miserably at it and ruin the whole thing. Because some (if not most) of those plots are awesome if used correctly. But I guess that after years and years of crappy writers attempting to write them, we may write them off as crappy themselves.
Of course there are exceptions.

Loved the chapter, just a quick query:

Once Rosier removed the silver mist,could Harry no longer see the memory? Was it a one off deal or could he replay and examine the memory at his leisure? Because as you mentioned he could hardly follow what was happening in the duel; at the start especially...

 

He would probably have his own memory of seeing Rosier's memory but I doubt he could "play" it without a Penseive.

 

From the rarity of Occlumency books, we have to assume that pensieves are even more rare in santi story. In my opinion in this story won't be a fandom method, like master occlumen goes to his/her mind and watch memories on tv screen. If it was possibile, then Dumbledore would not even use pensieve in first place. Therefore chances are that, Harry will have method to analyse this duel is rather low. Although he could find pensieve somewhere in Grindelwald room. From canon we know that he had some skills in Occlumency when comforted by Voldemort about Elder wand. Furthermore Grindelwald status as Dark Lord guarantees his possession of rare magical artefacts like pensieve.

 

From the rarity of Occlumency books, we can assume that Harry will receive a pet purple dragon next chapter. He'll call that dragon "Jimmy" and they'll be best friends. Harry's friends will be put out that Jimmy has stolen their place in Harry's affections, and so will begin to plot to get rid of Jimmy. Harry will catch them and snap, angry that they would do such a thing. He kills them all.

And all the time, Jimmy is in the background, an evil smile on his face.

All was going according to plan.

It really is amazing what people can deduce just from the rarity of Occlumency books...

And Taure, Tomatta is right; you should use spoiler tags as many of us hadn't yet connected the dots - although in hindsight it really is obvious.
