Remember how Victor reacted to someone wearing Grindelwald's mark?

Yeah. Even if he was somehow free, Harry wouldn't go hang out with the dude.

And plus, Harry does have an amicable relationship with Dumbledore. No matter how epic he might find Grindelwald's feats in Durmstrang, he's not going to turn his back on his 'grandfather' either.

I'm curious if this has been addressed at all - is Krum a half blood or pure blood? I can't remember ever reading which in the story.

I don't know if this has been pointed out, but I'm not reading 300+ pages to find out: Dumbledore and Grindlewald both had grimoires. Grindelwald's grimoire hasn't been burned. Since Durmstrang was his HQ for a while and HP hangs out in his room, it's possible HP could find it. With Krum graduating, much of the Anti-Grindlewald presence in HP's life will be removed.

I see this Harry as being different from either Voldemort or Grindlewald. He doesn't care about The Greater Good or getting back at muggles. He is proud, even arrogant, to the point of developing a superiority complex. He thinks he is better because he is smarter and stronger than others. That's his weakness: pride. He might try to rule the world simply because the current leaders are idiots in his opinion.

Now, why would Grindlewald leave his grimoire at Durmstrang? Maybe it could have a spell or curse of some sort on it, one that Grindlewald intended to be found: one that could give him exactly what he needs to escape.

I don't think it was ever explicitly stated that the journal Dumbledore burned in the interlude was a grimoire. I just assumed it was their plans for "the Greater Good," based on the pro-wizard inscription on the first page.

I'm pretty sure Harry's just going to learn from Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore has an acute understanding of what exactly Harry is learning. Dumbledore knows what's up.

He sees a lot of himself in Harry. A thirst for glory and great magic. A need to make his mark on the world and an unparalleled talent for sorcery. I think Dumbledore knows a shit ton of dark magic, of all kinds of magic. Otherwise, I don't think Grindelwald would have respected or loved him as much. Those two pushed the limits and it was for personal reasons and later, ideology, that pushed them apart, not magic.

Rather than divorce himself from Harry, or squash his burgeoning dark wizardry, I think Dumbledore would rather nurture him to grow into a wizard like him. That's why he doesn't mind telling Harry about conjuring. That's why he allowed Harry to go to Durmstrang. That's also why he helped him with the Goblet. Dumbledore will only ever intervene when Harry does some really freaky shit, like making a horcrux.

I don't think so. There is a fundamental difference between ordinary wizards and dark wizards in canon - Dark wizards can't use patronuses. There's presumably other freaky shit associated with Dark Wizards as well. I doubt Dumbledore will approve of Dark Wizards.

Pretty sure Snape is a dark wizard. Where is it stated in canon that dark wizards can't cast the Patronus charm?

Snape can be considered a dark wizard and yet he can cast the patronus charm. You are making things up.

Most pureblood families don't mind Dark Arts. Some are actively advocating them. Hell we even have a whole Knockturn alley where questionable staff are being sold and the Ministry is OK with that.
Other than being a social stigma the term Dark wizard doesn't mean anything else (and even this is only for some families).

The quote Stan is thinking of is JKR saying that dark wizards don't need Patronuses, because dark creatures don't attack dark wizards. She doesn't say that they're completely unable to cast them.

Doesn't the fact that Dark Creatures don't attack Dark Wizards show a fundamental difference between Dark Wizards and ordinary wizards? Although how much Dark magic you would need to use to be considered a Dark Wizard is certainly debatable.

Then again, the Dementors do affect the DEs in Azkaban, so I'm not sure what JKR means when she says that dark creatures don't affect Dark Wizards.

I'm not so sure about Dumbledore knowing that much about Dark Arts. As far as I remember the sixth and seventh book, Dumbledore needed Snape's expertise when he got his hand cursed. I also wonder what exactly Dumbledore ment in this:
Was it about Dark Magic in general, or maybe he ment Horcruxes?

Well, I guess it is up to The Santi to what extent The Santi follows canon :D

I do not think that dark wizards are not attacked by Dark Creatures because they are dark. They simply are not attacked because Dementors were quite chummy with Voldemort. When Voldemort was vanquished for the first time, Dementors had no problem with dragging his followers to Azkaban, and at that time death eaters were visibly affected by their presence.

This bipolar dark-light, star-wars-like division is quite popular theme when it comes to fanfiction writing, I think, that they are just labels. We've got Snape as the example - he obviously was quite a normal (if unpleasant) human being including an ability to love. He just liked dark magic. He also liked potions, wearing black and avoiding shower. It was just Voldemort who was a psychopath.

Had a similar idea way back before Santi's break, the marks Grindelwald left in Durmstrang? Horcruxes. The reason anyone who fiddles with them goes crazy and commits suicide? Legilimency so brutal Voldemort would get a boner if he knew about it.

Dark creatures guard dark wizards in Azkaban, and they seem to be affected, while Sirius was relatively unaffected b/c he knew he was innocent. Could it be that dark creatures don't attack dark wizards but that (in the case of demontors) they feed off of guilty conscious?

If Grindelwald left a grimoire in Durmstrang, I doubt Viktor would have any problem with Harry using it. He wouldn't hate the knowledge because "your soul turns black and evil", he hates the man and his ideals.

As for the dark magic discussion: didn't JKR say that all curses and hexes are dark? Even if not, there is a well known school that actually teaches dark magic and doesn't make a secret out of it. It can't be illegal, right?

He might well want nothing to do with anything Grindelwald related; we don't know just how deep his hatred runs.

I do think he'd be okay with a theoretical grimoire if it was first checked over by someone who could check to make sure there would be no influence granted to Grindelwald by learning his spells.

It's probable that different countries have different proscribed spells.

That still makes it a legislative debate, not good vs. evil, which is my point.

Krum didn't like using Grindelwald's old room/whatever to study after Harry was given access to it, but he didn't object to Harry using it either.

I assume the same would hold true for anything types of knowledge Grindelwald left behind, provided that it didn't appear to be obviously dark. Grindelwald (in this story) was really good at enchanting if I recall correctly, and I can't see Viktor objecting to Harry learning from him in that regard. I don't think Harry if daft enough to pick up any "Greater Good" ideals from a book, so that probably wouldn't come up. That just leaves Dark Magic type stuff, which I could potentially see Viktor objecting to if it starts to mirror anything Grindelwald did in the war, etc.

Perhaps dark creatures can sense a wizards intent to use force and would only attack those who have less of the dark magic intent to use force floating around them. Thats the only explanation I could think of that makes sense.
