Actually, the ending wasn't that bad. A bit anti-climatic ending, but since he's obviously been setting it up from the start, I can't say it feels wrong or ad-hoc (like JKR's attempt).

Corrupt British ministry was once again demolished by more progressive governments that are set up more to the author's liking, but overall, the political stuff wasn't too obnoxious. This time he at least skipped the 'making it all better' crap, that usually comes after 'tearing down the old system'.

Harry didn't have a grand final battle, but his fight against the assassin guy was IMO good enough to at least partially make that up. The way Harry handled him was very much within his abilities, if we take away the over-powered concept of wards.

I'd say DW is becoming a better writer with each new story, but this still isn't the best he could possibly become. Still looking forward to more of his stuff; even if its cringe-worthy at times, fast update rate, plenty of (usually) reasonable ideas and general anti-angst attitude make his work generally worth my time.

I'm kinda surprised this one isn't in the library, actually. Sure, Dumbledore is basically evil and Harry's departure ends up crippling the British magical world, but those stories can be fun to read if the writing is solid.

I don't even think it requires that much suspension of disbelief. The British wizarding government is rotten to the core in canon, and after Book 7 it's hard to think of Dumbledore as either kind or intelligent. He knew Harry would have to sacrifice himself all along, and he purposely made the kid suffer to give him that 'saving people thing.' He didn't even expect Harry to have a shot at living through it until Voldemort used Harry's blood in the ritual.

The way Dumbledore introduced the Hallows to the group was also stupid beyond belief. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they possess all three Hallows at the beginning of the story? So what's the point of distracting them from the horcrux hunt with his idiotic, inscrutable clues? Dumbledore is perhaps a touch over-the-top in this story, but it's not as if canon Dumbledore wasn't a cold-blooded manipulator with ridiculous plans.

At any rate, this story is good at building suspense and the action is good despite the lack of a confrontation with Voldemort. It's easy to root for Harry against all the absurdities he faces.

    Easily 4/5

Oh Gods, this fic is the ultimate representation of how much Fail DW is.
Seriously. He's OK when it's just one-shots but his multi-chapter fics are nigh unreadable. 1/5

What actual conflict, if any, does Harry face? What actual challenges, if any, does Harry face? DW's plot in this story, and unfortunately other's, are sorely lacking in any sort of real existential dilemma or conflict or challenges for the protagonist. It's basically a story where everything goes right - where Harry cannot fail, where deus ex machina lurk behind every corner...

I was bored. I was not entertained. 2/5.

Hmm, very rough start. The first several paragraphs are bad enough that I almost simply stopped. However the range of ratings in this thread (from awful to great) made me keep reading. Well, at least, I read the first two chapters which are rather long and constitute half the story.

About halfway into the first chapter, when Harry starts looking at new schools to attend, it becomes readable. I almost didn't make it that far.

To me this story seems fairly original. I don't know if it actually is or not though, since it's only the second story I've ever read where Harry went somewhere other than Hogwarts. I don't remember the name of the first, but I do remember that it was an AU of another fanfiction story and I read it solely because the story it was based off of was decent. I don't remember being impressed.

The parts with Harry, apart from the start of the story, are readable and probably rate a 3/5. I actually rather enjoyed hearing about his new school and their methods of teaching, though I suppose to someone who has read more of these types of stories it might seem full of cliches. Even the Harry parts go downhill by the end of the second chapter though.

The parts with Dumbledore are more like a 1/5 at best. The characterization of him is rather off, you see. It's quite easily one of the worst Dumbledore's I've ever read.

There isn't much of a story in this story, which is a major disappointment.

Also, this tale makes a fatal error in referring to The Count of Monte Cristo as a, and I quote, "bad muggle book." For the record, that's my favorite book. Or at the very least it's in my top 5. Oh, and Snape likes little boys.

The writing and plot averages out to a 1.5/5 I suppose, and I'll up it another half point because this particular new school is interesting to read about, and rate it a 2/5 overall.

tl;dr -- It sucks ass, but has the honor of being the best "Harry goes somewhere that isn't Hogwarts" story that I've read, of which there have been two total.
