I really wanted to like this story. The sheer number of positive reviews it had received made me think there would be an awful lot to recommend about it. I started reading it and gave up in the first few chapters cause it was boring. I eventually came to the conclusion that it's one of those stories you really needed to get into before it got good, so that was the thought I took with me when I tackled it for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th times.

It was a while ago now and I don't remember the specifics of why I don't like it, all I remember is that I found it incredibly boring and phenomenally over-rated. Someone above compared it with Partially Kissed Hero, which I find quite fitting as that was another story I started multiple times before giving up on it in a fit of boredom.

I have no idea what "scnr" means, but that smiley describes the latest note pretty well.

It means 'Sorry, could not resist', it just seemed a bit too empty to post just the smiley.

In that instance he seemed to not actually try seeing where DLP was coming from in that thread. I think for most people here, Harry Potter is a kind of urban fantasy story or fairytale and for those kinds of stories certain conventions hold. Animals can sometimes talk, but that's just part of the whole background scenery, of the mise en scène, not an actual plotpoint and not to be seriously questioned or examined in a real world setting.

It's like the abusive stepparents (or here aunt and uncle) who just belong in that kind of story - it is odd and in many eyes idiotic if you take that seriously and then have Harry be mentally damaged and needing years of professional help.

I don't really mind in this story, as it's not really taking itself seriously - in a way like Glee from that standpoint - tackling sometimes serious topics, but differently themed episodes and over the top all around.

I may be missing something here, but didn't the whole 'sentient animals' thing get done to death on this forum on another thread? By Lord Raine, or someone?

That particular slice of failpie was, indeed, Raine's.

    From his Author's Notes:
    Yep, it did.

    I still dislike this author.

Yes, yes. Of course he'd try and get an 'intelligent' discussion out of a thread on how to speak to steaks. That'd seem to describe him perfectly. Some things you just can't save. That thread was one of them.

    Who knows another?

Yeah it seems that his last author's note has worked. It looks like this story might just become the most reviewed story in its fandom.

Please leave. Don't post again. You've made it clear that you consider everyone here beneath your notice or unworthy of your consideration, so don't even waste your time.

Everyone else: I'd encourage you to ignore/block him, but the chances of that happening are minimal.

Honest question LessWrong; where do you plan on going with this fic? Are you planning on going through all seven years, or are we in for some surprises sooner than expected? We aren't even past the 1st year yet.

Also, you do have some great ideas, but aren't you executing them too soon? Various aspects of the fic seems to read like "How can I work in this Crowning Moment of Awesome into this..." - I mean, while having awesome plot points are great and all, too much of a good thing can detract from immersion.

And how exactly do you plan to make us suffer, your highness?

Because I don't see how your able to. Your not that powerful LessWrong.

wtf, LW? Seriously, wtf? I'm one of the few on this board that likes your story and then you go and post shit like this. Do me a favor, just go back to writing your story and don't actively try to make me dislike you.

Much as I'd love to join the bandwagon, I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm, guys.

I know. As I told Jeram on IRC, I'm incapable of believing that LW, who professes to love rationality so much, would make a post like that in all seriousness.

    Successful troll is successful.

Jesus, did DLP take this hard or what? I've seen some far more offensive crap here, and I've only been on the bloody site for a couple of weeks. LessWrong called you a cesspit, boohoo. Hell, from what I've seen, DLP should take pride in such a mild insult. Personally, I think Rin may be more right than she knows. For such a 'rationalist' to insult a community is strange, methinks DLP got trolled hard.
Aside from that, the story itself wasn't bad. I actually like it quite a bit. I think it takes a while to get going though, and the byzantine scheming was my favourite part of the story. Sometimes it gets a little cutesy eg. whenever LW attemps a H/Hr 'tender' moment. The real gold here is as stated the power games played by everyone.

It's good to finally see, explicitly, that Harry is at least somewhat aware of Quirrell's true nature, even if he doesn't exactly understand it.

That was just AngelOfDreams teeing off. He's a little excitable.

As for trolling, you see how well the author's attempt at it yesterday succeeded (as in, not at all). You, on the other hand...

Personally, I'm glad to see him join the conversation. His fic has gotten this much feedback and that in and of itself is testament to Methods raw ability to at least write a provocative and engaging story.

And, also that's what DLP is all about. Direct author feedback and criticism.

I'm also glad to see that Methods can joke about having a dark side.
Not everything has to be about magical soul saving kisses, you know.
