I'd started thinking on this kind of fic a while ago. But it only really cemented for me after the third in the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy was released.

If you're familiar with the games, then you'll know that the goddess Etro bestows upon 'Yeul' the power to see into the future. Going by that logic, then shouldn't it also be true that Etro has those same powers?

I was thinking along the lines of Etro seeing into the future and figuring out Bhunivelze's endgame for the most part. And preparing for that eventuality by choosing a champion of her own outside of Caius and Lightning.

Enter Harry at the DoM running in after Sirius before Lupin can grab him. As the goddess of death who rules over the 'unseen world' I figure if the veil leads to death it would end up somewhere like there meaning she has dominion over Harry.

I had the idea of Harry becoming a L'cie of Etro and his focus being that of killing Lightning when she becomes 'The Saviour' and slaying Bhunivelze when he reveals himself. It's been hinted at that those imbued with powers from the Fal'cie gods are capable of hurting and or killing them with enough luck. For instance Caius killing Etro using the powers he received from her in the 'Heart of Chaos'. And Lightning killing Bhunivelze with her powers as 'The Saviour'.

Since Harry would be Etro's own personal L'cie I thought he should have a limited amount of 'chaos' infused within himself aswell. And therefor could use the Paradigm Pack ability like Lightning and Serah. I was planning on him using this instead of getting an Eidolon.

    A Munchkin named Ron.
    An Albino Lobo named Padfoot.
A Chocobo of some kind named Hedwig.

Just for the lulz I had planned on having Harry name some of the creatures he tamed after close aquaintances from his own world.

Anyway as a L'cie he'd have access to the Final Fantasy form of magic/powers - Ruin, Fira, Cure etc etc. But even though he'd be without his wand in this new world, he'd still be able to perform his own kind of magic without a wand because of his being a L'cie. At the beginning he'd only be able to perform simple jab, swipe and point oriented spells because he would hardly be able to the complex wand movements with his arms aswell as he could a wand and that's not even leading into Transfiguration which would take ages for him to start be able to use without a wand.

Ofcourse he wouldn't be Chuck Norris-like just from becoming a L'cie. Stronger and more powerful body or not. The likes of Lightning would still kick him around with one arm tied behind her back.

I'm still building alot of the plot for this, although granted I've got the overall plot figured out and most of the 'world building'.

My problem is I'm not sure where I should start it off. During the 13 days before the purge or just have Harry land smack dab in the middle of it with nary a clue of what the hell is going on while everyone is dying around him.

    What would you guys suggest?

Edit: I also had the amusing image of Harry running into a Chichu at some point and instead of taming it, he kills and eats it.

Meh. For this to work, you'd have to completely revamp FF13 into something that didn't suck on the level of a black hole.

I don't mean to come across as an arse or anything, but it's "l'Cie", not "L'cie".

Different perspectives I suppose. Because personally I love the entire set, more so part 2 and 3 than 1 I suppose but still big fan of the series in general.

Would you mind perhaps giving a review of FFXIII trilogy? Not so much the gameplay but the overall story and how well it's handled.

Spoony also does a pretty decent review, if you want more. You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but if it is "This is a good game", you're wrong.

You want to know why I personally dislike it?

    1. The fighting doesn't let you actually fight. I like what they wanted to do, but when the game fights for you, it has FAILED.

    2. The main problem is the story. It makes no sense. The exposition is so poorly done that you have to check the datalogs and even with them, you still rarely have any fucking clue what's going on. The game SHOULD have explored themes like morality, necessary evil etc.

Is it okay for the group to kill soldiers who are trying to kill them? There could've been lots of room for awesome character development, but the only one who has any is Hope and fuck that guy.

    3. The villain makes no sense. Sephiroth was a good villain because we more or less understood his motivations. He wanted to become get power. The main villains plan here is so fucking complex I still don't get it and I've beaten the game.

Also, the "bad guys" are fucking stupid. Sahz supposedly shot himself in the head and yet they don't wanna check on his condition? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

The fights with Barthandelus make no sense. Nothing is accomplished and no advancements are done. If you want a good example of a good recurring boss, look at Beatrix from FF9. She's not a bad person and she really doesn't want to kill your party.

In the end, after several fights, she realizes that she's actually on the wrong side and joins you.

    4. The characters. Snow is annoying. As hell. Sazh should've shot himself for real. Not that I dislike him as much as it was a retarded thing to put into the game if it wasn't for real. I really hoped at that moment that the game would finally take a turn towards darker paths... But no.

Lightning's... meh. I like the design of the character and she's enjoyable bad-ass, but the focus should've been put on how she relates to her sister and what she'd do to assure her safety.

Vanille. STOP FUCKING MOANING LIKE A HENTAI CHARACTER WHEN YOU PUNCH THINGS.
I couldn't have her in my fucking party cos I was worried my folks would think I was watching weird porn.

Fang. Same as Lighting, really. You never learned enough about her. Seriously, we never learned enough about anyone for the game to be interesting.

    5. The levling system/roles/abilities.

Nowhere near enough awesome abilities to play around with.

    6. Why the fuck does Vanille grab Fang's boob in the scene where they're reunited? I'm not against it, as such, it just makes no sense.

Overall, it's a bad story and it's done even more badly. If you want good storytelling in games, check out Last of Us, or Beyond: Two Souls.

    God this rant got long.

I watched my brother play Final Fantasy XIII for a time. Had no idea what was going on, even when I was fully paying attention. Then he eventually stopped out of frustration/dissatisfaction. We still have it, but I'm not touching it anytime soon. If I want to play a Final Fantasy I'll probably replay X or just wait for XV.

The two things I can remember most about 13 are grinding like a mofo and the constriction on travel. The amount of grinding I had to do to learn certain spells drove me nuts and really killed any enjoyment I might've had for the game. 10 years ago I could've ran around slaying monsters for EXP/AP, but these days I don't have the patience.

The 2nd thing that I hated was how nearly every level had you running in a straight line with no twists or turns. There was no large open world map like in most Final Fantasy games where you can go visit cities, small towns and do random side quests in them. I think the best part of the game is when you get off of Cocoon and explore the Pulse surface, but this is ruined for me too since there's nothing but monsters and some ruins.

Anyway, I stopped playing about 3/4 of the way through. For battle all you had to do was select Auto and the computer did exactly what needed to be done and I just grew bored with it. Story made no sense either. I'm going to assume that FF15 will make up for my disappointment.
