Anime adaptations of books have been done before. Deltora Quest is the best example that comes to mind. Sure, the VAs were poorly cast and the animation wasn't fluid enough, but the adaptation followed the plot closely (at least in the beginning), and there weren't that many glaring errors.

Imo, the success of an anime adaptation would, like RL films, depend on the director and the company in charge of it. For example, if Hideaki Anno took the helm, you might get a lot of "boob movage" and psychological mindfuck.

If Toei took control, you might get something a bit more generic and "kid-friendly". If Ghibli or Hosoda decided to adapt HP, you would probably get only a one-off story and not an adaptation of the entire series.

It all depends on the director/studio. As it is with RL television shows and films. Don't treat anime any differently to who you'd treat the American tv and movie studios. Not everything from Japan is a high school romp or a shonen show involving Hot Blooded idiots and tsunderes. :/

EDIT: And to add something I found,

When I’m 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I’ll be reading Harry Potter. And my family will say to me, “After all this time?” And I will say, “Always.

These would be problems if you make the anime cliche as fuck. Not all anime has to be as cookie cutter as you are making it out to be.

Who the fuck is that kid? Seriously. Its been how many years and it still pisses me off.

Were they replacing Dean or something?

I hate to say it but this kid is like looking at one of those racist old timey comic depictions of black people.
Only a whole bunch greasier and sweaty.

I feel like If I throw a feminine hygine product at him it would immidietly swell with fluid, and also turn blue as I'm sure it does.

    Edit:

His Name is Bem, Like that explains anything.
His name means peace, he could possibly be a ravenclaw because of Tie confusion and he is loyal to the School choir?

    Seriously, the Fuck?

LOL, the link is amusing to me.

I like how they make it seem as if he's a real character in the wiki. I agree, QuaziJoe, THE FUCK?

I can't find a source, but I remember reading something years ago that Bem, as we're calling him, was the kid of one of the producers or directors of Prisoner of Azkaban, and thus got some screen time.

    Eh.

And I thought Coppola's nepotism was bad. So what, they just inserted a character for no other reason that to give him screen-time? And this worked?
