I'm sad because the only way I can think of them giving the money to Voldemort is somehow trapping him in their family vault, locking it securely, and somehow he manages to touch a piece of gold and him screaming about Malfoy and Potter while slowly being covered in gold.
Or even more sinister, both families smelt down their gold and dump in on him. Afterward, they argue who gets the statue and start outbidding each other with the rest of their gold.

 

That story sounds....golden.

It's honestly the only way to comprehend the Harry Potter septology beyond the shallowest of interpretations. It shouldn't be a surprise that such a behemoth of the Western literary canon requires a firm grounding in what came before and a careful, critical reading style to fully appreciate.

Once you reach that final stage, I do urge you to keep in mind the ending note regarding enjoyment ("REMEMBER:...") While reading something as dense and challenging as Rowling's oeuvre, it's good to have lighter fare on hand to take a break with in case of burnout.
