    I, for one, thought it was a joke about treating Harry Potter like a deep philosophical work, which is why it stated "to read it in its original dialect" and the random order of reading, as well as all the things you need to read first.

    It's a surprisingly deep image, really. It's like an onion: it's got layers.

    Could also be a chronological path plotting how we got from the Illiad to Harry Potter, though that doesn't quite explain the Communist Manifesto or the philosophers, which aren't exactly traditional stories in their own right. Perhaps with a dash of Machete Order inspiration in there as well.
