I must have missed the memo that said the Lion King was now considered mandatory knowledge in a cultured appearance >_> Feel free to watch your Disney y'all, I have my copy of Grimm's fairy tales collection. I use it to occasionally slap half the world when I hear people believe nowadays that Disney invented Cinderella.

Edit: Portus, that would require having seen it. I haven't, and not any other Disney Cartoon either I can think of at the moment.

Actually, The Lion King is based more on Hamlet than anything else, which a cultured person ought recognize. I have plenty of problems with Disney's sugar-coating of stories (Little Mermaid, anyone?) but they can certainly make an epic cartoon adaptation, at least most of the time.

Favorite Disney cartoon? Tough to decide between Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Robin Hood. Of recent movies I really enjoyed Brother Bear.

@ Blaise: You have become Carlton Banks. Seriously.

Well aren't you all different and stuff D8

But yeah, Disney's gross misrepresentation of fairytales is pretty amazing, once you've read the originals.

    Haters gon' hate :p

LOL, Voldie's face in frame 9. :awesome "Gnaa, Evil Harry Potter!"

(At first, I tried reading it right to left; manga has ruined me.)

Haha. Points for the Old Spice spoof. Though I can't help but feel those should have been World Cup tickets.

On the other hand, I'm sure a muggle would prefer the ones that lead to Hogwarts.

I got the reference instantly... it just wasn't very amusing (and, like the comic, suffered a somewhat critical grammar fail).

And, yes, I do see why, at first blush, saying "grammar fail" seems like hypocrisy. :p

    Robin Hood wins hands down.
I am not sure whether they are from Disney or not, but Atlantis (the first) and Treasure Planet (if that was it's name) were some of the best cartoon movies I've seen, Pixar movies excluded.

Regarding the Lion Kind reference-comic I posted. When I first found the pic, I saw it and laughed. And after a few minutes, I remember the scene from Lion Kind. I think it was funny on its own, but funnier when thinking of Lion King. But that's just me.

Disney, having little to do with Potter memes, nonetheless required an answer:

Both of those animations are from the House of Mouse, though they lack the Disney style- I think they were appropriated from Touchstone.

My favorite modern non-Pixar Disney animations:
    The Emperor's New Groove
    Mulan
    Lilo and Stitch

    Mulan. Mulan. Mulan. Mulan. Mulan.

And Beauty and the Beast, for two reasons:
    1) Belle reads (silly reason, I know)
    2) She actually gets to know the guy before declaring undying love for him. Unlike some movies... *cough* Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, ect. *cough*

Don't put Belle on some pedestal. He was a beast, sure - but he was easily the wealthiest person in that damned story. Or did you forget the large fucking castle, magical servants, and large expanse of land between his pad and the village?

How is that different from any modern gold-digger who hooks up with a well-paid troll?

So what, The Little Mermaid still was the best Disney Movie even if it is grossly different from its source material. :awesome

Part of your World = One of the best songs Disney has ever made.

I hated Lady and the Tramp every time I watched it.

    I'm going with Jungle Book.

Aladdin, every time. Although Hunchback of Notredame does have pretty much the best song in the Disney canon.

It's Dalmatians, Seratin. Thank you, come again.

In any case, I still stand firmly behind 'Sword in the Stone', 'Robin Hood', and a tie between 'Lion King' and 'Hercules' - you know, boy movies, before everyone who made them went to Pixar and Disney sold out to the princess franchise.

This. Every single time. A Whole New World is still a regular feature of my youtube playlist (mostly because I got dragged along to an ickle cousin's pantomime and her rendition was cute enough to make me want to listen to the original :p).
