I never really got Protego as 'Pro-teg-oh'. I always pronounced it 'Pro-gee-toh', and still do on occasion. Same with spelling - it always seemed better as Progeto to me.

And ditto on the Hermione. It took the combined efforts of my mum and dad to persuade me otherwise, and right up until the fourth book I still hadn't twigged.

I still maintain that Hermione is pronounced Her-me-oh-nee, and everyone else is just wrong.

I still pronounce Dobby as doh-be, even though I know it's wrong.

I always read 'Peverell' as 'Perevell' for some reason, and I always spell Grindelwald as Grindlewald. I used to pronounce Hermione like the previously posted as well. Also, I used to pronounce Dobby like (A)Dobe.

Pronunciation aside, I guess most of the stuff is just obscure facts from the books that I didn't notice until my 7th read through and stuff like that. Like in book 4, it's implied that it's a veela's dance that charms someone, which I never really noticed before.

Well, the dance seems to send it into overdrive, but consider the bit afterwards, where a load of people are just standing around Veela, and Ron tells them he's invented a broom that can go to Jupiter. That seems to be more than just a normal reaction to a super hot woman.

Also, I had the good luck to have a girl called Hermione in my year at primary school, so that's one I had no problem with XD

Poor girl. I bet that -when she got in to her teens- she would have had the piss taken out of her.

Unless she was a super-hot cheerleader.

I, being a complete loser, had read the Odyssey by then and knew how to pronounce Hermione.

Sirius was Sir-ri-us until I reread PoA after a year or so of no HP.

I tried calling Sirius "Cy-ree-us" until the third movie came out.

Other than that, I saw the first movie before reading the books, so I went into them with a lot of pre-formed ideas and pre-drawn images.

Also, just out of curiosity - was the flying Anglia alive? I never quite understood that. If it was, at what point did that happen?

I always used to pronounce Flitwick as Filch-wick for some reason. Even after the movies came out. I just never noticed it until suddenly one day, I really read his name.

Somewhere between Ron and Harry's crash and the scene with the acromantulas, I suppose. Just Hogwarts' innate magic pissing around with technology.

I don't know if it was alive exactly, but it certainly had some level of sentience and independent action. As for when, well it was able to act independently of the controls when it crashed into the willow (It kicked Harry and Ron out of the car), so sometime before then.

I always read Lumos as Luminos

I also read "Little Whinging" as "Little Wing - ing" until I realized it was the British spelling of whining.

I think it's pronounced 'windging' like 'bridge' but maybe my misconception is wrong there too.

Either way, I completely missed the fact that it was a blatant reveal about Harry's character. Wonder why the American English books never changed it?

To whine and to whinge are separate words. They're synonyms, but both are used in Britain - not separate spellings of the same word.

Also, whinge is pronounced to rhyme with binge.

To whinge is to complain in an annoying, persistent way. Whine can be used for the same thing, but whinge isn't really used in any other way.
