    Link.

Didn't expect it, but it may be quite interesting.

Extended backstory? Magical America? I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be an utter shitfest, because otherwise it could be facinating. That she's apparently been considering this for years and likes the character gives me hope.

    Hmm, could be interesting.

Wonder whether they'd have a cameo from a character from HP in it...

Steve Kloves did say over and over that he was surprised by how much more material she had on the side that never made it in the books. So I'm hopeful....

My first thought upon reading this was "Well crap, now the Newt and Rolf I've written into my fanfic will probably be out-of-character instead of just canon-names written as original characters."

Otherwise... interesting, potentially. I don't really see how it's going to be a movie, but I suppose there's a lot of potential for a Safari sort of vibe.

I'm glad that HP universe will expand, but I find this idea much more interesting. Maybe some day.

Now I just have to figure out where they're filming and see if I can't weasel my way in.

Maybe they'd open the movie with Harry reading the book to one of his kids or something..

Perhaps a recently graduated Dumbledore who's parted ways with Gellert would be involved. He'd be in his mid twenties/early thirties in the 1920s right? And scholarship like this was his thing.

It's either going to be really interesting, or utterly awful. I'm going with cautious optimism for now, but at the very least, seeing 1920's (or 1910's, depending) Wizarding America should be pretty cool.

If they did a cameo, I'd think Evanna Lynch as Luna would be brought in to be the storyteller/connecting personality. JKR said she was perfect for the role, and I doubt she'd ask for excessive compensation (unlike Dan Radcliffe or Emma Watson).

@Afrojack- Albus Dumbledore was born in 1881, so he'd be in his forties. Doesn't mean he'd look much older than twenty-five, though.

Honestly, I hope this starts a precedent. Rowling can have the whole damn well as far as I'm concerned.

Truth. Damn, something had me thinking he was born in 1896. I still feel like it'd be interesting to see him.

So if he's twenty in 1901, that means it takes almost fifty years for him to confront Gellert, and near that long for Grindelwald to gain power? Yeesh. Certainly took his time, that one.

Man, I hope this movie shows some of the more badass beasts like quintapeds, nundu, and lethifolds.

Is this a Thing or a concern?

I'm excited for this project, because hopefully it won't be Merlin in Slytherin bad.

It's not like Warner Bros. won't throw money at another Harry Potter film.

A Harry Potter wildlife documentary as a film?

    I'm surprisingly hopeful of this.

I'm kind of hoping the "wildlife documentary" angle is a hook into the wider political drama of the magical world around that time: Dumbledore and Grindelwald, Phineas Black, the Gaunts, Tom Riddle's birth... although magical creatures are nice too, I guess. >.>

Newt Scamander was a headmaster of Hogwarts in movie "canon", right? Wonder if they'll stick with that.

Why America though? there are far more interesting countries other than America. Is this just one of those times where they have to Americanize popular British stuff?
