It seems to have great potential so far, though only in the third chapter. Jed mind tricks, conjuration, and potentially evocation. This is what happens when you have the power of Harry Potter, the innocence of a child (in terms of possible and impossible) and being taught by fanatsy books and RPGs. Starts off when Harry apparates himself onto the school, only he reliazes what he does.

 

I've been following this since chapter 1 and yes, it has great premise and even greater potential.

The problem is that the author is a H/G + R/Hr shipper and he's likely to put Harry in Gryffindor, with Ron & Hermione and turn this whole idea into another reenactment of PS, only with stronger & smarter Harry.

There is still slight chance that he might change his mind, which is why I was waiting Harry's sorting before deciding whether to post this in normal categories or in "Unrecomended Fiction" with all the other disappointments.

No, the beggining is really interesting & original, it's the Hogwarts years that I'm worried about.

 

Came across it today, its in a list of fics I watch, some get abandoned, others turn out bad and get deleted. Still it was fresh, and I was thinking Harry was looking more Ravenclaw. As it is from his author notes I think he is trying to keep this both fresh and walking between superpowered and underpowered. Cross your fingers and hope.

 

It is a decent fic and it looks like the author actually thinks things through. We can only wait and see how Hogwarts is handled.

Eh?! I find the h/g pairing very likely to happen in this story. I wonder what he's gonna use instead of curses.... Maybe he can finally shoot twin pinkish beams of love from both his eyes? And then there would be Ginny in the background, shouting "You can do it Harry! You can do anything with the power of love!"

Egads!!! got carried away there... Sorry. Um, not really. That was something i needed to get off my chest.

I sicerely hope this does not become a Pussy!Harry fic.

 

In his defense he talks about doing evocation spells later(i.e. fireball, lightning bolt, the fun fry your enemy type stuff), once he has a suitable area to practice. And as it is his mindset currently is heavily influenced by what he has read. I personally hope his opinions on curses and jinxes will change, ecspecially if he hangs out with the weasely twins, but his current view makes sense with his upbringing.

 

After reading the fic, I see what you mean, Harry probably assumes from his own experience in magic that curses and jinxes are more of the...may your eyes rot and fall out, or other permanently disabling effects...rather than the making your enemies hair fall out, or jelly legs jinxes that WE know Dr. Viridian's book contains (assuming the book mentioned IS Curses and Countercurses)

 

I'm sorry, but RPG! Harry just rubs me the wrong way.

THATS WHY I DON'T LIKE RPG HARRY.

 

No RPG harry just means he relates spells to rpg's and other fanatasy works as its all he has to go off of. On the flip side it means he might try things other wizards consider 'impossible' just from the assumption that since the basic ones work why not the more advanced ones? Plus can you just imagine the confusion of anyone using legimency to determine which spells he can/is going to cast?

EDIT:
To give you an idea a line from the story: "Well, I just got ideas for spells and stuff from story books, comics, games, that kind of stuff. Then, I'd just figure out what I'd need to do in order to to make the effect I want happen."

That should give an idea as to what we mean by RPG harry here

 

Agreed, I had to click the little "X" on the top right corner of my browser and do something else for a while to see if I could work up the courage to read the rest of that chapter. And I didn't. The way I saw it heading, I wouldn't be able to get that little sentance out of my head.

Example, -me reading the rest of a chapter I made up to make a point- The quotes are my thoughts.







Harry saw a girl who looked to be poor and had red hair and took an instant disliking to her.

We walked up to her and started throwing fireballs and lightning bolts toward her.

He finished her off with a exploding charm level 49 with plus one damage due to the arm brace of strength and power+1 that he was wearing.

The rest of my made up chapter was suited to my liking(except for that little RPG part I felt the need to put in) and it still would have pissed me off.

 

i know how you feel. i quit reading the story when harry said about the curses and jinxes, and how turning into a dark side. just irked the hell how of me. and the h/g god that's a fucking bonus to not even go newar this fic.
i was so happy when i found out about this fic with fresh idead a good potiential story. man was i wrong. h/g "shudders"

 

again, RPGs generally feature "white" and "black" magic, which is all harry knows at this point - he doesnt realise that the jinxes and curses in that book are like schoolyard "language" in relation to the Dark Arts...think before you speak... type replies piss me off
