Yep. WoT is up there as one of my favourite series of all time. I never watched the show.

Dune was good tho, yeah. And it was very true to the book. So it is possible to do it right, just rare.

I watched the first four episodes, and was lying to myself about liking it. Realized when I could never bring myself to watch episode five.

As for Dune: I was disappointed in a lot of decisions made in Part 2 (Chani's and Stilgar's characterizations, the compression of the timeline, the Emperor's utterly stupid reason for turning on Leto, and some more), but it was still such a masterful movie that it more than made up for the deficiencies.

Either way, 100% expecting the Harry Potter show to be garbage. Good thing I don't have HBO.

I did find the second less than the first originally, yeah. Though I didn’t read the book until after I watched the movies. Reading the book makes me appreciate the first less and the second more.

Very hard films to adapt tbh.

it’s not just Twitter, but everywhere I see. Can you name one truly successful show that has done such an egregious race swap? These people ruin everything they touch. I don’t know if it’s because they are ideologically captured or if they just are incompetent in casting.

I also blame the actors that sign up for this and do this. Why as a black actor would you even entertain the notion of taking a role like this?

Even more, can you name anyone that's heard of Lesotho?

Seven Samurai? Ghost in the Shell?

Mel Gibson, an American-Australian playing Christ or William Wallace?

How'd they dare pervert canon like that?

    Nick Fury in the MCU.

And the reason nobody gave a damn that they recast a character with 45 years of precedence of being White is because there wasn’t a billion ruble industry funding faux-outrage in retarded low IQ fuckwits.

And anyone who tried to raise the point was quickly - and rightfully - shut down with some motherfucker-based insult.

I would like to point out that there was no outrage because MCU Fury was based on Ultimate Fury that was based on SLJ.

No one really gave a fuck about Nick Fury before the MCU came along. Average person didn't even know who he was. Also, wasn't Ultimate Fury black?

Meanwhile here you probably have Alan Rickman's Snape inside hundreds of millions of people's heads. Sure, the outrage machine online plays a part of it, but it was going to be met with more backlash either way.

Well said. We were straight up judging a person by the content of their character and not the colour of their skin.

This is Wiki on how Snape is described in the books. The only thing in here that hints at him being white is the sallow skin, which when I Google Image’d ‘sallow skin black people’ gave back plenty of pale, sickly looking black people.

As long as his nose is big, his teeth are fucked, his personality is cunty, and he abuses children, I fail to see a problem other than the aforementioned retarded low IQ fuckwittery.

No. Ultimate Fury based on SLJ was in 2002 way before anyone even considered MCU.

You are correct. Website I was read was using very misleading language. That one is on me. Sorry.

That said, I don’t think it really changes my point. Fury was white for 1963 until 2002, and no one cared when the change occurred.

Nah, the word pale is repeatedly used to describe him in the books. And "marble white" and "the color of sour milk." They're also definitely not going to make him anywhere near as bad as he is in canon, in looks and personality.

Tbh though, it would've been fun to see Samuel Jackson in role of Dumbledore.

Different times, less outrage back then, but also because Ultimate Comics were designed to be a modern retelling of the Marvel Comics and the changes like that were their point.

That said, this example makes a good point about something. If you want to make a radical change from something that is an established thing, you really need to make it amazing for people to accept it. Just making Fury black wasn't really something that people cared about when it happened in 2001. It was only when in 2002 they make him SLJ that it was fully embraced and easily carried on to MCU.

The same thing is here in my opinion. Making Snape black can be done, but the actor will really need to make this role amazing compared to an actor that was be closer to Alan Rickman's version of the character which is the most popular one.

They should lean into the outrage. Make all Slytherins black (hence why they’re shunned!). Ravenclaws are all Asian and Jewish because they’re the smart house. Gryffindor are your traditional white euros. And hufflepuffs are the illegal immigrant house.

I don't think anyone who read the HP books had the impression that Snape was anything but white.

I'm absolutely not convinced that black Snape is the right choice, but I think a lot of TV show and movie adaptations for books are dumb for many of the changes they make. To me this is no different.

But the outrage surrounding it is primarily due to the culture war.

Casting choice worked as intended, got you guys and half the internet talking about it didn't it?

    It's basically free PR.

Casting an 80-ear old man in something as taxing as a TV-franchise that's supposed to last atleast 7 years is far more idiotic.
