Eh, I really like Honks as a pairing (hell, my Harry/Tonks fic The Night They Remembered is in the Recycling Bin), but like Harry/Fleur, there's so damn few good fics in that category. Unlike Harry/Fleur, I've yet to find a Harry/Tonks fic that is of sufficient length and quality and that is not overwhelmed with insufferable smut.

I'm currently leaning towards Harry/Tonks in Renegade Cause, but I'm still not fixing on a pairing yet (hell, the story might avoid romance entirely). But then again, that fic is written in the OOTP-year - when Tonks was still the awesome character she was before HBP erupted and ruined her character.

And of course, my next long oneshot (which should be hitting fanfiction.net and likely DLP within the week), has a twisted little take on Harry/Tonks that will certainly be enjoyed by several here. But that's neither here nor there...

As noted, there is very little quality Harry/Tonks. Which is a shame, because she's probably the funnest female in the series that JKR actually gave a personality to.

I'd like to see a Harry/Tonks fic that doesn't revolve around Tonks training Harry to fight Voldemort. Which is why in retrospect the Harry/Tonks I have in my fic, where Tonks is just a confidente and subordinate is totally original. I amaze myself with my awesomeness that I can create new motives for the characters in my own story long after I have defined them on file. This must be what a lit professor feels like.

Yeah - for the one fan who was wondering, I hate to say there's going to be no great romance in the Doorway to Dawn. Although there may be something implied for the future. In the epilogue. If one squints.

 

It's spelled Severitus and is named after the person who first issued the challenge. Or as I prefer to think of them, "The ignorant cunt who opened Pandora's fucking box."

If Severitus sounds like a communicable disease, that's because it is one.

Known for being the genre most people misspell, and for being mistaken for SS/H pairing, when in fact it is a mentoring relationship (though both are an abomination).

Also, it's complete horseshit and most stories in that genre suck like a thousand black holes.

If Harry/Tonks is declining, it's because HP fanfic is experiencing a bit of a lull, in general.

The people writing the 'hot, new' pairings involving Scorpius/Albus-Severus and Fenrir/Harry (I just vomited) aren't the ones who would be writing H/Tonks anyway, so it's not like any perceived decline is because the authors are busy with other stuff.

I'm sure there will be more Honks, though the selection may be sparse and filled with dross.

 

There's so very little Honks in the Resonance series that it shouldn't really count. Snape is easily the main character in those stories.

How is it that there's never been an official 'Harry/Tonks' rec thread at DLP? Jesus, even Harry/Astoria has one.

That said, I'm not really sure what we'd put in it. 'Summer of Change' is a given and I really liked belleradh's recent 'The Key to Summer.' Is there anything else? Admittedly I haven't read madeye's story, and I don't really remember Crys's, but nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

 

Well, there's a piece of shit called Identity over at FFN, which has him soul-bonded to Tonks, Fleur, Hermione, Ginny, Remus, and the Weasley twins, while also being an elf-vampire-werewolf hybrid if I remember correctly. It's what ASCAL* is loosely based on.

The "R" series by Regulus (also at FFN) isn't terrible. It is cliche in places, it has Tonks/Harry in the same neighborhood, and it has ye-olde-superpowerful-artiface, but it's certainly readable. If you can stand the I'mfeelingangryandangstyandpubescenttodayandIknowpreciselywhygrrrr.

And before anyone murders me, that last "word" is basically the last three books, but at least other peoples' reactions are mostly believable.

Ugh, the R series.

I actually enjoyed it until the author had Tonks ditch Harry for the Vampire OC. I hated that character through the first four novels, and when he started seducing Tonks and creating lame as hell drama I ditched the series.

Ruskbyte's Flying Without a Broom is definitely a classic. Best HP/Jurrasic Park crossover ever.

 

I'll second the hate on R-Series, it had its moments and I really wanted to like it, but before long I too was unable to just ignore the vampire any longer and gave up in disgust.

 

There was this one Honks fic I remember where Harry developed metamorphmagus powers and Tonks was teaching him (normal so far) but as part of the teaching, in order for him to be able to make trans-gender transformation, he needs to see a woman naked. Enter Tonks being examined naked by Harry, Harry then successfully transforming into a girl, and femHarry/Tonks lesbian sex.

That was a good story. Lol.

The whole "I need to see you naked to learn about my powers" thing should be used more.

 

I liked the R-series too for the first 2-3 stories, but the overall plot just became stranger and stranger. Still, those stories never felt like Harry/Tonks fics to me. Sure, they've got a metamorph named Nymphadora in them, but she's the same age as Harry and lives in Little Whinging. That's just against the rules.

I haven't read 'Flying without a Broom' in a long time, and I remember liking it, but didn't it get abandoned before Harry and Tonks got together?

that remianded me why don't any one write a story where they spend time together and don't jump to bed after 5 minutes? execellent oppotunity would be if harry is metamorphmagus and tonks teaching him. I mean something like metamorphmagus power should at least take few months.

I was planing to write some thing like that with indy harry theme but my english isnt that good yet and I wouldn't be able to break down clishes running in my mind.

Honks needs to die. Primary reasons being:

1. Morphing into a Mary Sue, or worse - her "real form" = teh hawtness.
2. Her clumsiness being a cover for her Super Ninja Auror Pwning Everyone (aka SNAPE) skills.
3. Falling in love with Harry due to her summer spent gaurding Privet Drive.

Well, I agree with you that certain Honks cliches need to die. The Honks ship needs to be sent back to port and rebuilt from top to bottom, utterly ignoring emo!Tonks and everything that happens after OoTP.

To add to Blaise's list, that means none of the following:
(1) "Oh Harry, you're the only person who cares enough about me to want to see my real form."
(2) Tonks is a secret Unspeakable who's far more powerful than she lets on.
(3) Tonks is a poor insecure girl who was stalked/taken advantage of by every male at Hogwarts because of her powers.

EDIT: I recall a Honks fic I read once where she is considered a Dark Creature by the Ministry and Andromeda takes custody of her to prevent her from seeing Harry. I can't remember if it's any good. Does anyone know which fic I'm talking about?

On the topic though: the only believable honks for me would be fic where the author manages to justify why a 20-something year old girl with possibly a killer outlook(I doubt with her abilities she would have a body any less than perfect... for her choice of hair style and color - that's a different topic all together) would actually like a scrawny little boy.

Unfortunately, most(all) authors writing the pairing apparently lack the imagination and patience to build up the right characterization(have the kid grow up) and then actually create a proper friendship between the two.

4 - "he acts older than he is and I still behave like a teen, so age won't matter" - Tonks must have line in any honks fic - Rejected!

edit: ok, after browsing through the rest of the new posts(Greengecko's story at the recycle bin) I should admit that I should exclude Greengecko from what I said above about authors not having the patience to build up the relation between the two. Unfortunately in Greengecko's case, that much patience was ruined by the amount of every day-to-day described activities and Snape, of all things, included in as a father figure. But I should admit that this series are one of the very few mentor!Snape stories I can read.

 

Well, if we wanted to do something really different for Honks, I suppose we could go with having Tonks be initially more attracted to Harry's fame and money than his physical qualities.

 

"Really different" in that particular case = fail for me. The idea has its merits and yet the plot sound more suited for a fluffy one-shot rather than good adventure/action story with the pairing, which I'd venture a guess - most would prefer reading.

I'd personally like to see Tonks' story line that follows a:

- metamorph(just like any other thing that could be hard to control and potentially dangerous gets labeled as 'Dark' by the ministry) - so Dark Creature
- as an auror they do consider her a "ministry property" and all of a sudden she becomes useful instead of dangerous
- she chooses to be an auror instead of pretty face on the side of a powerful man who can guarantee her "equal" life among the wizards while being limited by the ministry and their laws

so... once our independant!Harry plot gets into the interesting part of Harry defies the Ministry(and everyone by default) she fights Harry for some time but joints against the ministry in vain hope to change something...
