I personally thought he was maturing in Book five. True he was mad at the world, it did deserve it though. But he was also more mature, displayed the honor that he thought a Gryffindor should display and was slightly more independent. He did try to display a Gryffindor mentality when dealing with Umbridge though. A Slytherin Harry would have grabbed his invisibility cloak and hit her with a tripping jinx while she was on the stairs. Unfortunately in book six he does what I would have expected in Book five. He sits on his laurels and basks in attention. Seems to me if being told that you have to kill a madman or watch the world fall apart you would make some attempt to get better.

I prediceted that Harry would grow up after OotP, and become more proactive, maybe try and train more. Instead he spent most his time trying to be Dr.Sloan from Diagnosis murder and investigate things he has no business investigating

Though, to be fair, the character development was absolutely terrible for every character in book six. SuaveCunningGenius!Snape, Idiotic!Dumbledore who gets tricked and killed by Snape, looks like a bitch from the potion, lets Malfoy run around doing whatever he wants as a death eater, etc. JelousRetard!Hermione, who hexes Mclaggen so Ron can get on the quidditch team, contradicts herself at every turn, is Jelous of Harry for his potions attention, jelous of lavender for having Ron, doesn't believe Malfoy is a death eater, or Snape is bad, Pimp!Ron, who suddenly has a bunch of girls after him, is snogging like crazy at every turn, and is once again Quidditch! Star. CrimeGenius!Malfoy, who manages to come up with a plan so cunning it leads to the death of one of the most powerful wizards in the world. What a hunk of shit.

Thats true about the investigating thing, but Harry has always been brash and curious when given the opportunity, especially when Dumby makes Harry carry the invisablity cloak around everywhere. He was constantly abusing the power of the cloak, when he should of been practicing spells in the room of requirment or reading one of the books Sirius and Remus gave him in book 5.

Totaly agree with the lack of training thing in book6, why is Harry dragging his feet, he should be a little more motivated knowing that he has to face Vold. The lazyness Harry has displayed in pretty much all the books really irritates me.

I agree. The guy has no motivation to learn magic or anything, which also doesn't make sense.

According to the Sorting Hat, he's ambitious and has a need to prove himself; also, he was belittled and made to be a failure and a freak by the Dursleys, and magic was his big chance to shine and rise above others who considered him a failure.

And, since he has displayed so much curiosity, why in hell didn't he ask once about what happened to his family? Is it supposed to build the suspense and misteriousness of the story?

Well, JK, it didn't work, but you managed to piss millions of people off even faster than Bush.

Probably not millions...just think of all of the slime populating the popular fanfiction sites...and the distinct lack of stories blatantly abusing :hbp
