What did you guys think of Rowling's four part excerpt on that? Personally I found it an interesting trade off. Wizarding America places much less value on blood purity, but seems to hate No-Maj's much, much more, due to the consequences of the breach in 1790.

I also wonder how all the different cultures that exist in the U.S. mingle, especially given the attitudes that their No-Maj counterparts had towards the indigenous peoples and later on, African Americans.

Is there a transcription/copy of these outside of Pottermore? I've done nothing past The Sorting so if my recollection of Pottermore mechanics is accurate I'd have to read through a ton of stuff before getting to the North America Lore.

I think you can read it without being a member of Pottermore. At least I could.

Hmm, I find this interesting. I had heard about the confusion and general discontent about the articles, but honestly I don't see the teroble fuss. I know that the short bit on natives were a bit monolithic and singular, but European history isn't much more devided. The only devission we have more in Europe is a set of other schools, bit their is the possibility that one or two of the other schools we've not seen yet might be in the Americas.

As for the general history and culture, I think it's interesting. The Thunderbird core wands makes since, and I'd already had that in my head cannon a long time ago.

The discontent was largely over her butchering of skinchangers.

Yes, but look at how she'd already messed up Chinese dragons, or making Europe monolithic, or south America or Africa, or even the two halves of Asia. Look at how she worked in mummies and ancient Egyptian treasures, grave robbing as a legitimate profession in the wizarding world. How she occasionally mishandled various magical creatures.

Honestly, I think that while it could have been done better it could have been a lot worse. And the natives arnt considered to be savages, or have lesser abilities, they just use different magics more and don't have wands.

And people were angry about all those things. The fact that you're only in a position to hear about that anger now doesn't make it any less legitimate.

The skinchanger thing was Stephenie Meyer levels of stupid though.

It was an overreaction to a non issue.

Rowling isn't perfect, she's bound to catch some sort of heat when portraying what magical societies look like in other countries. But she's not "appropriating" anything with the skin changer thing. It's inspiration that's driving her not racism.
