It was the same for me, but in my case I know what caused this. It was quite depressing to read about how he decided to ruin his relationships with almost all his friends to improve chance in the contest, combined with Hermione angry at him that she is again constantly losing.

It was well written, but for half of year I had no interested in reading further.

BTW, author mentioned some time ago that there will be the promised romance - and "it might not be between who you expect".

 

What? Why? I'd rather he build upon what he already has between Harry and Fleur (obviously), Harry and Luna, or even Harry and Hermione (I could see that as a renegade romance) than pull something else out of his ass. I guess there's also Tracy (Tracey? I never know how to spell that lol). Those are characters that his Harry already has some relationship with. Introducing another love interest would require more development, and making everything else just so it fits the pairing that no one saw coming could ruin the story.

That promise smells like ratings driving content.

 

It probably means "not Harry/Hermione" (characters listed in story metadata).

 

I always thought there would be a Harry/Tracy/Draco thing (not the biggest fan of it, mind, but it was handled decently early on) but that's kind of disappeared for a while. Harry/Fleur, Harry/Hermione seems most likely, though what the author says makes you second guess.

 

At this moment my guess is Harry/Fleur.

 

Looking at the author's other stories, it's obvious he's aiming for an eventual Harry/Hermione. I don't understand why people think anything else is an actual possibility.

 

My bet would be on Tracy then. Fleur has been on the spotlight since she appeared, and Hermione is obvious due to his other stories, so the surprise would be Tracy. I really doubt it will be Luna (although I would love that), since she had very little development compared to Tracy and Hermione.

Fingers crossed so the author will choose anyone but Hermione, I like all others.

 

Well, he did say, that it will not be what we would think, so H/Hr could be discounted. It could be a Harry/Fleur, or a Harry/Random... Truth be told, I do not see a H/Hr at this stage. Maybe it's just that I don't like the author's Hermione (I think she's an arrogant bitch), but Harry is much better suited with Tracey or some other random female.

 

Guys... Kwan says it'll be something we won't expect. I'm sure he could use just about any female and it wouldn't be such a surprise, unless it's Umbridge.

I've been very confused in this thread about all the Fleur talk until I realized I'd somehow gotten the latest stuff from HBS and Forging the Sword mixed up...

 

I think the story will eventually be Harry/Hermione, given the author's preference and the development so far plus the pairing listed in the story. The romance that comes soon is more likely to be Fleur or something though. No problem with having a temporary romance that doesn't work out.

 

Quite the opposite, really. People marrying the first person they have a crush on is far too common in fanfiction.

The writing isn't top tier, the premise is interesting-ish, but not overly so, but I kept reading, and now it's over, and I want more.

I don't entirely understand why, but I liked it.

4/5, would probably be higher, but some of the prose just reads as jarring to me. Rare WIP that I await updates for.

Well, just read the whole thing and a solid 5/5 from me. The premise is new and that's not something you see that often these days. What I really love about the story is how beautifully painted the characters of Snape and Harry are. A Harry that fully embraces his slytherin side but manages to still be human and make mistakes is one of my favourite characterizations.

What puzzles me though is Hermione's character. How in the hell, did she transition from canon Hermione at the start of first year to this version of herself? Also, I wouldn't be so sure of a Harry/Hermy-oh-nee paring yet. The buildup seems a little too obvious and if you've read Kwan's other stories, you'll know that he likes to take what we think is going to happen and completely screw it over and present it to us on a silver platter.

One thing that irks me though is that everyone, including Harry himself and everyone here, seems to have forgotten about Harry's ability as a parselmouth. I bet you my left pinky toe that Kwan's waiting to pull that out and use it to fully institute Harry as head of House Slytherin. He needs an army right? What better way to give him one than to make people think he is the true heir to Slytherin?

Another issue I have is Blaise. His character seems a bit too over the top to just go AWOL on Harry because he was doing his job. Whether it was Snape messing with his head or just plain anger, envy and the embarrassment Harry forced on him, is he really willing to throw away four years of friendship just because he and Harry had a fight?

Is this confirmed? If so, then it's definitely not Hermione. Not Fleur either because Kwan likes to fuck with us. Probably not Tracy because he hasn't been doing any buildup between the two of them romantically, I can see Draco/Tracy but not Harry/Tracy...

What if it's Ginny?

But seriously, I don't really care about the pairing as look as it develops somewhat naturally and doesn't take too much focus away from the action, which has been pretty good in this fic. I honestly don't really see Harry and Hermione happening realistically here - I don't really get the impression that they like each other all that much, more that they have a lot of respect for one another.

 

Hm. Here it is described as Harry/Hermione. But I am not sure whatever it is his account or is it somebody copy-pasting his stories.
